Department of Education. The NYS Commissioner of Education commended the Yonkers Board of Education for having achieved the most significant improvement in statewide testing results of any school district in the state. That is a statistic we will improve upon even further in the coming year. In addition to our public school systems, many private schools and institutions of higher learning operate within our borders.
