We are incredibly proud of what our Success Academy scholars have achieved! They are among the brightest, highest-achieving students in the state of New York thanks to the support of our dedicated teachers, staff and parents, as well as the preparation provided by our comprehensive curriculum and school model. Importantly, while attaining stellar test scores is certainly wonderful, it is not our primary focus. Rather, our objective is to prepare our scholars with a best-in-class education foundation that sets them up for success in college and beyond.

Teaching, working with and supporting our young scholars is incredibly rewarding. Success Academy Charter Schools look for dedicated individuals who believe deeply that every child can achieve success. Every day, our team cultivates knowledge, curiosity, wonder and the desire to learn in each and every one of our scholars. Our team of dedicated professionals work collaboratively to raise the bar for public education in ways that will help every child have access to an excellent public education.  Simply put, we work hard because we love what we do and we know we’re making a difference.

The first Success Academy opens its doors in Harlem serving 165 Kindergartners and 1^st graders.

Success Academy Harlem 1 welcomes a new incoming class of Kindergartners and adds 2^nd grade.

After seeing dramatic gains in student achievement in our first school and in response to high parent demand, we open three new elementary schools (Success Academy Harlem 2, 3, and 4) serving students in Harlem. More than 1,000 scholars are enrolled in a Success Academy school with more than 100 teachers and school staff.

Enrollment grows! We are serving 1,500 scholars in Kindergarten through 4^th grade. Our first school, Success Academy Harlem 1, ranks in the top 1% of New York State public schools with 97% of scholars passing the state exams. We’ve outgrown working in the back office of Success Academy Harlem 1 – the network’s employees move our headquarters to 310 Lenox Avenue.

Three additional elementary schools are opened across Harlem and the Bronx and one middle school is added in Harlem. We are serving nearly 2,500 scholars.

Success Academy launches Teaching Fellows, an innovated summer training program for new teachers.  Our network of schools expands into two new neighborhoods with the opening of Success Academy Bed-Stuy 1 and Success Academy Upper West.  During the 2011-2012 school year, we will have approximately 3,500 scholars enrolled in our schools.  We have over 400 teaching and support staff serving our scholars.

MAGNIFICENT in MATH

Ninety-five percent of Success Academy (SA) scholars passed the state math exam.

• Our scholars’ math success means that our schools ranked in the top 10% of all schools in NY state and in the top 10 charter schools in NYC.
• Our scholars' math success means that our schools At SA Harlem 1, 99% of scholars passed the math exam. Every year since testing began at the school, SA Harlem 1 has ranked in the top 1% of schools in the state – three consecutive years and counting.
• All of our 4^th graders passed the math exam, tying them for first in the state.

EXCELLING in ENGLISH

Eighty-one percent of our scholars passed the state English Language Arts (ELA) test.

• Our scholars’ achievements in English placed all of the Success Academy schools in the top 20% of all NY state public schools. Two of our Success Academy schools were even in the top 10%.
• Success Academy schools were all among the top 8 charter schools in NYC and outperformed the state average by 25 percentage points.

SUPERB in SCIENCE

100% of our fourth graders passed the science exam – and a staggering 91% earning an advanced rating, the highest possible. That compares to only 43% of students scoring an Advanced rating throughout New York City.

ZIP CODE DOESN’T DETERMINE SUCCESS

Our scholars are proving every day that your zip code does not need to determine what you can achieve and that it is possible to narrow and even flip the achievement gap in the United States.

• In Harlem, we have outperformed our neighbors every year in both math and English since testing began in our schools.
• In reading and math, our schools outperformed schools on the Upper East and Upper West Sides of Manhattan.
• At our Harlem schools, 94% of African American scholars and 97% of Hispanic scholars passed the Math exam. This compares to just 73% of white students across New York State who passed the exam.

STRAIGHT A’s

All four Success Academy Harlem schools received an “A” grade on New York City’s Progress Reports (the reports measure test scores, student improvement and the environment and culture of schools).

• Success Academy has two of the ten highest-performing schools in NYC overall.
• All Success Academy schools rank in the top 3% citywide in student performance and were on the same level or better as citywide gifted and talented programs.

PARENT SMILES

Each year, parents of children in all New York City public schools complete a satisfaction survey about their children’s education. Last year, parents of our scholars offered glowing reviews.

• All of the Success Academies received a score of at least 9 (out of 10) from our parents – this means that all our schools ranked in the top 7% in all of New York City.  
• Parents of scholars at Success Academy Bronx 2 rated the schools academics a 9.6 out of 10 – making this school #1 of all NYC charter schools and tied for 6^th place across all city schools.
