| The Associate Systems Technician is responsible for assisting in the basic installation, operation, and preventative maintenance of the regional data network. These networks include CDPD, ATM, OTN, CDMA Data, EWS, STP, Datakit, OMP administration, and desktop applications. At this entry-level position, the Associate Systems Technician will learn and apply new technical skills to support the interdepartmental objectives including: troubleshooting, upgrading, and administering multiple vendor systems; maintaining system applications; and ensuring quality customer service. Other responsibilities include: providing support to a varied-user community; updating daily logs with site-specific information; and composing clear and concise reports for system documentation. | Minimum Associates degree, 2-year technical degree, relevant military experience, equivalent special electronics training, or equivalent work experience is required. Minimum 0-1 years experience plus electronics training in one or more of the following fields: telecommunications (cellular or landline) switching systems or experience in LAN/WAN operations and IP connectivity is preferred. Basic training and/or coursework in at least 2 of the following areas: data communications, digital communications, operating systems and applications, telecommunications, computer support, project management, and/or power. General understanding and/or working knowledge of power and data networking protocols including TCP/IP, OSI, Frame Relay, ATM, X.25, RIP, OSPF, BGP, ISDN, SS7, other LAN/WAN protocols is required. Strong programming and computer skills with emphasis on applications are required. Experience and knowledge of transmission facilities (OC48, T3, T1, and DSO) is required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook is required. Ability to work extremely flexible hours and support "on-call" duties and shift work is required. |
