Our Elliott Manufacturing business in Binghamton, NY is adding a Cost Accountant to their team. Reporting to the Finance Leader this position significantly contributes to routine analysis of product cost variances, identifies root cause(s), and recommends to management cost reduction opportunities. Assists with cost saving initiatives such as on-going identification and analysis of activities to drive cost reductions and margin enhancement. Utilizes product cost information to assist in pricing actions.

The Cost Accountant manages cash-flow (disbursements and receivables) activities for the organization. In addition, he/she serves as a conduit to identify business partner issues (e.g. disputes with customers and/or suppliers) and summarize information so that the issues can be resolved. The successful candidate will also manage the internal control assessment activity for the Finance organization by working collaboratively with the various operational groups in the Elliott organization.



Required Skills
  • Coordinates daily cycle counting and annual physical inventory working with manufacturing personnel.
  • Ensures internal controls to satisfy Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
  • Performs month end closing procedures such as reconciliation of inventory accounts, reviews work orders, audits accounts payable general ledger (g/l) account coding and freight bills, and accruals to prepare financial statements.
  • Analyzes cost of goods sold (COGS) including material and labor variances.
  • Highlights key COGS activity and product profitability.
  • Assists with development of overhead rate for inventory valuation.
  • Assists with development, maintenance, and tracking of standard costs for material and labor.
  • Maintains fixed asset system.
  • Be involved with or lead special projects as time or capabilities allow.


Required Experience
  • Demonstrated ability to give extraordinary internal and external customer service including working with manufacturing personnel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, and demonstrated proficiency in analytical and personal computing skills, specifically using Microsoft Office Applications such as excel, access and power-point.
  • Aptitude to quickly learn multiple ERP systems.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and aptitude for business process understanding.
  • Desire to engage in self-development in order to perform other responsibilities in the organization.
  • Detail oriented and demonstrated ability to work well in a fast paced environment. Ability to translate knowledge into business procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to train others on the job.
  • Willingness to accept and perform new duties as deemed necessary by management.
  • Bachelor degree in Accounting preferred.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • 2 - 4 years of Cost Accounting experience.
  • Auditing experience a plus but not required.
