The role of the Data Acquisition Coordinator is to establish and maintain contacts with communities and vendors to facilitate the procurement of parcel data. Primary duties are to document metadata on parcel vector data and purchase and track status of said data within the Parcel Inventory. Also included in primary duties is the initial reading and evaluation of community licensing agreements, followed by negotiation to procure data that can be used for defined purposes documenting the availability of and acquiring non-vectorized parcel data is a secondary responsibility.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

    *Communicate with counties, communities, commercial and government aggregators via telephone, email and website to procure parcel vector data.
    *Evaluation of license agreements provided by communities and in cases where data is restricted, negotiation with communities to successfully procure data that can be used for product development.
    *Perform initial evaluation of the need for an availability of parcel data to support upcoming FEMA map revisions and procure necessary data.
    *When data is received, utilize database tools such as Microsoft Access to ensure that the correct data was received and that the data is correctly formatted prior to forwarding to the GIS Department.
    *Process and provide feedback/results on data requests from other departments.
    *Capture and maintain comprehensive documentation of metadata on existing and procured data, including but not limited to: contact information, price, existing legal restrictions.
    *Prepare cost/benefit analysis for review by department management prior to data purchase.
    *Document and track status of data within the Parcel Inventory.
    *Maintain detailed communications between Data Acquisition and GIS Departments to ensure timely processing of parcel data.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education

    *High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred

Experience

    *Up to two years related experience
    *Direct hands on experience utilizing both telephone and email to procure data or other information
    *Experience with database software such as Microsoft Access and/or FoxPro preferred
Knowledge/Skills

    *Requires a high degree of technical aptitude and a working knowledge of GIS products including ArcView and ArcExplorer as well as a proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Access
    *Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
    *Requires a detail oriented, highly motivated self-starter with strong organizational and office oriented skills who can handle multiple priorities
    *Must be able to independently manage many different tasks which may be assigned by different individuals and develop solutions as challenges arise
    *Ability to complete projects accurately and timely
    *Must be proactive and have a process improvement focus
