Job Description:

Position Summary: This position is responsible for coordinating the effective use of equipment, facilities, team members and skill sets in order to meet all production/testing, quality, safety and delivery requirements for a specific department.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Develop, train and motivate team members to achieve desired efficiency, proficiency, cooperation and morale
2. Analyze potential production/testing problems (delays, material shortages, equipment repairs, etc.) and devise/implement procedures to minimize lost time due to these occurrences
3. Review operational schedules, coordinate production/testing activities, and manage team member assignments
4. Interact with engineers to modify machines, equipment and/or processes to improve production/testing and overall quality
5. Maintain awareness of plant/engineering policies and procedures and ensure employee adherence
6. Create and support an environment to encourage open communication and cooperation at all levels of the organization
7. Encourage participation by all personnel and work to continually improve procedures, conditions and involvement.
8. Provide model leadership appropriate for an empowered workforce
9. Constructively coach/mentor employees to improve performance and achieve career potential
10. Use data to estimate work-hour requirements and build departmental efficiencies
11. Manage costs and budgets and provide corrective action plans to improve budgetary control
12. Monitor productivity/testing and improve performance on standards; provide corrective action when quotas are not achieved
13. Maintain a strong knowledge of Briggs & Stratton products
14. Identify and suggest changes in work methods, conditions and use of equipment
15. Inspect materials and finished product for quality compliance as required
16. Perform full range of managerial responsibilities which may include but not be limited to: interviewing, hiring, coaching and developing employees; planning, assigning and directing work; EEO/AA; performance management; department budget
17. Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested or required

COMPETENCIES

Job Skills Requirements:
* Knowledge of manufacturing equipment, and/or laboratory instrumentation procedures and production/quality standards; may require knowledge of management of warehouse or laboratory
* Demonstrated ability to work with multiple internal departments to ensure on-time delivery of quality product
* May require ability to read, interpret and explain blueprints, engineering drawings, job orders and specifications based on location
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with and motivate a diverse group of employees
* Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of personnel and production problems
* Proficient computer skills and familiarity with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and business control software (SAP)
* Ability to work in a busy, fast-paced production environment, often under time constraints

Education Requirements:
* High school diploma or equivalent required
* Associate or Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred but not required

Experience Requirements:
* At least one year experience managing personnel in a production and/or lab environment highly desired AND minimum of three years of experience in a production and/or engineering environment
