Civil/Highway Engineer

HDR NY/NJ Transportation Business Group is seeking to hire a Civil/Highway Engineer to work Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build Projects.

Primary Responsibilities

The primary duties of the Civil/Highway Engineer will include leading teams to produce design criteria, design plans, design calculations, cost estimates and specifications for highway and/or site/civil projects. It is expected that the candidate be a team player ready to work in a collaborative environment within the NY/NJ Civil/Highway Section. The Civil/Highway Engineer shall be familiar with both local and national codes, standards, and specifications.

Responsibilities

In the role of Civil/Highway Engineer, we will count on you to:
Lead the technical delivery of projects of varying complexity from concept development through final design.

  • Have the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Participate in working meetings during design development with internal teams as well as sub-consultant staff to ensure consistency, thoroughness, and quality of work product.
  • Oversee, mentor and review the work of junior staff.
  • Coordinate workload throughout entire project development and ensure completion of documents on schedule and within budget.
  • Perform Project Engineer duties including financial responsibility for your assigned aspects of projects, and contribute to progress reports, and schedule updates.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • MS or BS in Civil Engineering or closely related engineering field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of design experience in all aspects of Roadway Design including Geometry, Utility, Drainage, Grading and Maintenance and Protection of Traffic design.
  • NY or NJ PE license is Preferred.
  • A working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microstation, and/or Inroads and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with local clients including PANYNJ, NYSDOT, NYSTA, NYCDOT, NYCDDC, NJDOT, NYC Parks or NJTA.
  • Strong technical skills in highway and/or site/civil design and the ability to mentor staff and review work to ensure high quality standards.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to prepare memorandums, letters and reports.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

* A working knowledge of project scheduling software.
* Active participation in professional engineering community activities.
* Effective client communication skills.

The expected compensation range for this position is $87,850 - $125,500 annually/hourly depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
