GENERAL PURPOSE

This position is a highly skilled machining set up and production responsible for safely set up and operate various Vertical Machine Centers (VMC), Horizontal Machine Centers (HMC), Computer Numerical Control (CNC) equipment to produce high quality manufactured parts. Performs the set up on all the equipment. This position will have the responsibility to ensure the machine parts and production units are meeting or exceeding the required quality standards meeting critical tolerances. Performs routine set-up and troubleshooting for all jobs. Must also have the ability to train others in a high-level Manufacturing concept and lead continuous improvement teams. Works closely with engineering, CNC and the R&D Team to work on existing and/or new products.

DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Performs the set up on all the VMC, HMC & CNC Equipment.
  • Good motor coordination, including sequencing and processing parts.
  • Ability to read and interpret, caliper, protractors and other precision measuring devices.
  • Ability to write CNC programs at machine and make adjustments into the program.
  • Contributes ideas and solutions to machine problems, issues, and fixturing.
  • Suggest any programming changes which will improve the quality, run time, material usage etc. of a part.
  • Responsible to monitor and replace worn cutting tools to achieve high quality standards
  • Capable to make precision tools and parts for production, engineering and Maintenance purposes
  • Conducts the first piece inspection of all the set-ups and a routine check of the operations.
  • Manage VMC/HMC/CNC Inventory tooling: Organization, control, inventory levels, maintenance and request of CNC tooling in conjunction with the Team Leader to area Supervisor or Fabrication Manager.
  • Provide operational training to other associates.
  • Provide assistance in maintaining training documentation.
  • Capable of troubleshooting quality related defects.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Conduct machine and production changeovers as required.
  • Ability to understand and execute verbal instructions regarding duties to be performed.
  • Complete clean-up responsibilities and maintain work station according to 5S procedure.
  • Understand workplace hazards and take steps to proactively prevent and report hazards or injuries in the workplace. Cooperate in safety programs, initiatives, and investigations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Math skills, including basic geometry, abstract thinking, communication and troubleshooting skills
  • Demonstrated ability to use and interpret measurement tools such as tape measure, micrometers, Protractors and calipers
  • Ability to read and interpret Engineering drawings, blueprints, BOM's and associated procedures
  • Ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to understand CAD-CAM software
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to frequently changing priorities/tasks
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to set-up and operate most of the VMC/HMC/CNC equipment
  • Ability to identify and communicate basic process improvements
  • Detailed Orientated
  • Capability to train others in a high-level complex bending and Fabrication techniques
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Proven reliability - attendance and punctuality
  • Must understand basic lean principles - 5S, Kanban
  • Ability to read, write and speak English is preferred

Minimum Education and Experience Required:

  • Minimum of three (3) years' previous experience in set up and operating VMC/HMC/CNC equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED or technical certification

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand for 8 hours/day while making coordinated movements of the hands and fingers to grasp/pinch, and manipulate objects. This may include frequent use of vibrating/pneumatic tools, overhead and outstretched reaching with arms, bending/twisting/stooping, kneeling/squatting and frequently lifting/carrying up to 40 lbs throughout the day. Also may occasionally include pushing/pulling up to 40 lbs.
  • Exposed to sharp edges.
  • May occasionally be exposed to dust, high noise level.
  • Regular shop assembly/distribution center environment (no air conditioning)
  • Steel-toed shoes are required for working in this position.
