Water Resources Assistant Resident Engineer

STV is a nationally recognized leader for delivering value and excellence in construction management, engineering, architecture, planning and environmental services, and is seeking a Water Resources Assistant Resident Engineer inMaspeth, Queens, New York.

The project has two phases; the first phase (on-going now until 2027) is the construction of two water shafts (40 feet diameter, 600 feet deep) connecting City Water Tunnel No. 3 to the City's water distribution system. The two shaft sites are within a few miles of each other. Ancillary shaft work is also required at two other shaft sites in the area. The second phase of the project starting in 2027 involves the construction of the mechanical/water distribution systems. The current project end date is 2032 and the construction budget is $700M.

The ideal applicant would have water tunnel/shaft construction experience involving underground clean water construction, soil handling, rock blasting, excavation, waterproofing, unwatering, dewatering, concrete liners and rock bolting. In addition, experience should also include large water distribution systems, disinfection and water system commissioning.

The Assistant Resident Engineer is a project leader and embodies the core values of the client: Safety, Quality, Budget, Schedule and Client Satisfaction.

Key responsibilities will include managing multi-disciplined inspectors, safety officers, quality officers and office-engineer personnel. As the assistant resident engineer, the applicant will be responsible for organizing cross-functional activities, for coordination of project activities for the completion of the project (i.e., project controls, project deliverables, schedule and budget). Schedules and monitors staffing requirements against the project budget/spending performance, including managing activities related to project scope and scope creep, schedule, cost, cash flow, communications, coordination, manpower, discipline requirements, resources, procurement, and risk elements required to optimize client service, quality, and fiscal responsibility. As assistant resident engineer, the applicant will be one of the primary contacts with the Construction Contractor and responsible for letter writing, communication and conflict resolution. The position is support by a staff of office engineers.

Required Skills:

  • The ideal candidate can multi-task, is a proactive manager and forward-thinking leader.
  • The ideal candidatewill have a bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, civil, chemical, electrical, environmental) or a related field and 10+ years of experience.
  • Experience as an engineer, construction manager or assistant resident engineer on NYC DEP projects is strongly desired.
  • A good understanding of a projects contract terms and conditions is expected.
  • A valid professional engineer's license in New York State is a strong plus.
  • Formal training in project management or construction management (CCM) is preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills a must.
  • Advanced degree in engineering or engineering related sciences is a plus.

Compensation Range:

$119,959.00 - $159,945.00
