Job Description

MWH Constructors, an industry leader in the heavy civil construction of water and wastewater facilities, is currently seeking a Project Accountant to support the construction of a Water Treatment Plant located in Portland, OR. This project will be the first of its kind in Portland, OR, scheduled to break ground in Summer of 2024 and ultimately supplying 135 million gallons of water a day to the Portland community by Fall of 2028. This position is a great opportunity to be a part of a historic infrastructure and filtration project and see it through the entire project delivery life cycle, from groundbreaking to closeout.

The ideal candidate will have specific accounting experience with general contracting on large scale construction projects. The Project Accountant will be responsible for assisting with the preparation of the contract billing, managing the AP workflow process for vendors and subcontractors, performing contract compliance verifications, maintaining vendor relations, assisting with project financial analysis and reporting, and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial transactions on the project.

Essential Functions

  • Perform and manage the daily operations of the accounts receivable processes including preparation of lump sum, unit rate, and T&M based invoices.
  • Perform and manage the daily operations of accounts payable processes including invoice coding, verification of invoice documentation, compliance checks, and coordination with subcontractors and vendors.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures tailored to the unique financial aspects of construction projects to ensure accurate and timely processing of transactions.
  • Analyze accounts receivable and accounts payable aging reports and provide detailed reporting to management staff.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and vendors to address billing and payment issues related to the project in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting standards and project specific contract requirements.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or 4 years related field experience.
  • Proven work experience in accounts receivable and accounts payable roles, preferably within the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations in the context of the construction industry.
  • Proficiency in enterprise accounts software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and perform effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle the complexities of financial management of construction projects.
