We are looking for an Electrical Hardware Engineer to work within a highly capable team of optical, electrical, and mechanical engineers to build the most innovative and complex Wavelength Selective Switches for our international clients.

The Hardware Engineer will be responsible for the overall HW design, specifications and performance of the product and will work in close collaboration with multi-disciplinary team to accomplish that. This position will support all phases of circuit development starting with system requirements and proof of concept throughout implementation, validation and release to production.

The successful candidate will be a resourceful problem solver who is able to work around technical obstacles and work independently with little direct supervision.


What You Will Do

  • Design & develop HW for cutting-edge wavelength selective switch (WSS) systems & subsystems from concept through production
    • System and low-level electrical design, simulations, components selection
    • Balance customer and system requirements, Design for Manufacturing, cross-functional team inputs, industry standard qualification requirements, cost targets, and schedule deadlines
    • Inform interdisciplinary team members of mechanical design constraints to arrive at practical design solutions
    • Conduct structured design reviews, document design decisions, and plan milestones for HW design delivery
    • Research, document and implement new or novel technologies to promote future generation products
  • Continuous improvement of existing products
    • Production improvements for cost reductions & manufacturability
    • Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis of electrical aspects of product
    • Work with Product Lifecycle Management team to scope new opportunities at the conceptual level and act upon customer feedback
  • Collaborate with a global team of engineers to foster mutual benefit
    • Engage with R&D, sustaining engineering, production teams across multiple global engineering sites
    • Collaborate on design tasks & delegate work to global supporting engineering staff
    • Guide the PCB layout team with part placement, stack up, and routing requirements. Review the artwork via layout tool and Gerber viewer
    • 5% travel (once or twice a year to Asia)

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical, Computer, Systems Design Engineering, or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years electrical design experience working within a manufacturing and/or engineering organization
  • Experience with analog and digital board design
  • Experience with electrical schematic and layout tools
  • Experience with revision control and structured change/ECO management processes
  • Competency with typical laboratory test instrumentation: oscilloscopes, power supplies, meters, etc.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Proficiency with OrCAD CIS
  • Experience with FPGA design
  • Experience with HW validation, measurements, failure analysis
  • Experience with high reliability and critical operation electronics product development
  • Experience using scripting languages (TCL, Python) for carrying out verification
