The Publisher is responsible for the editorial and strategic development of a portfolio of journals in Life Sciences. You will manage and develop relationships with external journal editors, while collaborating closely with internal and external stakeholders and networking in the community to identify opportunities for growth. Additionally, you will formulate plans for the publishing portfolio, develop new partnerships, and participate in global strategic development of publishing activities and select projects.

How you will make an impact

  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with external editors and editorial boards with the aim of building and maintaining the journals' reputation and quality,
  • Actively evaluate and replace, where necessary, existing journal editors, with adjustment to editorial structures as required,
  • Collaborate with Wiley's internal editors and society portfolios,
  • Manage overall journal strategy and performance,
  • Streamline and implement new operational initiatives and workflows,
  • Constant community outreach (virtual and in-person) to enhance personal network, commissioning, journal and Wiley visibility, understanding of the subject and community.

What we look for:

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with a flexible and innovative approach to problems and a focus on defining and achieving outcomes,
  • Deep understanding of journal publishing and ability to articulate overarching strategies for journal development,
  • A general awareness of commercial trends in publishing and understanding of major industry trends,
  • Broad knowledge of life science fields and their relation to adjacent areas
  • Demonstrated strong collaboration skills to strategize and secure buy-in from external partners for necessary improvements even when it requires engaging in difficult conversations,
  • A self-motivated, diplomatic, and flexible approach with outstanding organizational and time management skills and an excellent command of the English language (both written and verbal),
  • A keen interest in science and science communication and strong desire to advocate for innovations in publishing and open research.

We are committed to fair, transparent pay, and we strive to provide competitive compensation in addition to a comprehensive benefits package. The range below represents Wiley's good faith and reasonable estimate of the base pay for this role at the time of posting roles either in the UK, Canada or USA. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall within the range, however the ultimate salary offered for this role may be higher or lower and will be set based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, skills, and competencies.
