Job Title: Patent Agent

Work Location: Parsippany, New Jersey

Work Schedule: Hybrid

Overview:The role of the Patent Agent is to reduce external outside counsel spending, assist the Chief IP Counsel and Senior Patent Agent with the management of the Company's patent portfolio, and help drive innovation from ideation to product launch

Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Chief IP Counsel and Senior Patent Agent, the candidate would:

• Provide support in drafting Invention Records with inventors
• Draft patent applications developed from Technology and Manufacturing
• Provide support managing Sun/DIC global patent filing strategy
• Provide support for patentability and freedom-to-operate studies
• Conduct patent searches and manage weekly/monthly reports to SBUs (Strategic Business Units (SBUs)
• Provide support in patent lifecycle maintenance
• Organize Patent Committee - co-administer meetings with Senior Patent Agent
• Provide support implementing the inventors' recognition and awards program;
• Monitor and report on changes/updates to the patent laws and rules
• If not admitted to practice before the USPTO, pass the patent bar within two (2) years

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in a registered technical subject or equivalent in accordance with the qualifications for the admission to practice before the USPTO
• 3+ year experience in laboratory research or manufacturing
• Excellent oral and written communication, problem solving and organization skills with scrupulous attention to detail
• Ability to critically read and understand scientific literature, lab experimentation, data, results, and scientific methods

Preferred prior experiences:

• Familiarity with ink, pigment and/or printing ink chemistry in graphic arts space
• Patent application drafting and prosecution
• Using commercial patent search and data analytics tools
• Working in a corporation or global organization
