At BNY Mellon, we are at the forefront of digitally transforming the financial services industry. The API Platform supports hundreds of internal and external APIs, with dozens of strategic financial services clients depending on our stability and success. We support the API lifecycle, from publishing to consumption to support. The API Platform team is distributed across Jersey City and in the U.S., and Chennai and Pune in India. We are expected to build and operate a 24/7 platform.
Role
As an API Platform Engineer, you will be part of the team that builds, maintains, and promotes our API Platform and related services. We build and operate the infrastructure that powers BNY Mellon's API infrastructure, publishing tools, and API mediation/orchestration services.
We combine the open source WSO2 product with in-house built services to deliver an end-to-end API Platform. While the core API Platform is based in Java, you will have the opportunity to work with a variety of languages and frameworks, including JavaScript, Angular, and Go.
What you'll do
Build and operate features as part of BNY Mellon's API Platform in Java, JavaScript, and Angular
Containerize and deploy API Platform functionality on a docker-based private cloud
Provide support to internal teams and clients developers for common API Platform use cases
Create self-service materials: write documentation, create sample projects, create videos, and automate manual support tasks
Principal Developer->> Consults with internal business groups to provide high-level application software development services or technical support. Provides comprehensive senior-level technical consulting to IT management and senior technical staffs. Evaluates compliance with the organization's technology standards. Works with internal business groups on implementation opportunities, challenges, and requirements of various applications. Analyzes information and provides recommendations to address and resolve business issues for a specific business group. Guides and consults with IT management and technical staffs regarding use of emerging technologies and associated services. Participates in defining corporate implementation and integration strategies of new technologies. Advocates for innovative, creative technology solutions. Contributes to the achievement of area objectives.
Bachelor's degree in computer science engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required, 10-12 years of experience in software development required, experience in the securities or financial services industry is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
7-10 years' experience within the Java ecosystem, preferably with building RESTful APIs and services
Working knowledge of Internet Protocol Suite
Experience with API security frameworks, token management and user access control including OAuth, JWT, etc.
Experience with Angular and node.js
Experience using version control and build tools such as Git, Jenkins, and Maven
Experience building using common databases, such as Oracle and MongoDB
Experience building production-quality APIs, preferably in a B2B environment
Experience deploying software in a containerized (Docker)/Platform-as-a-Service environment
Experience building and operating production systems in a business-critical environment
Knowledge of monitoring tools such as App Dynamics, MoogSoft and Prometheus
Knowledge of logging and messaging frameworks such as Kibana and Kafka
Experience working in agile environment
B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience
Great written and verbal communication skills, including with non-technical audiences
Experience in 24/7, highly-regulated environments, such as financial services or healthcare
Experience training or mentoring other software engineers
Experience with WSO2 open source API management software, or a comparable platform
