C&S Companies is seeking an experienced Office Engineer to assist with our transportation construction inspection program in multiple locations throughout New York State served by our offices in Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo NY. This is a full-time position offering competitive compensation and benefits, and an outstanding work environment.

This position is primarily available starting March/April 2020 for all projects located in primarily in Central and Western NY. Consideration to begin sooner will be given to candidates that possess experience with preparing contract documents, cost estimates, and assisting with project startups. Also, whereupon successful completion the candidate may have opportunities to assist our Transportation Team with oversight of multiple projects in the 2020 season and beyond.

Position Overview

The Office Engineer assists the EIC/Resident Engineer on daily management of construction inspection projects, providing technical and administrative information to others working on the project to ensure that work complies with all engineering standards, codes, and specifications. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Review of daily inspection reports and payment quantities in accordance with NYSDOT/MURK requirements
  • Prepare change orders for overruns, changed conditions, and additional work
  • Process submittals and RFIs, coordinating with Designer
  • Coordinate and maintain as-built project documentation
  • Document project issues
  • Maintain detailed and organized project records, both electronic and paper
  • Conduct Commercially Useful Function Reviews
  • Monitor Civil Rights goal compliance
  • Process contractor payments
  • Assist EIC/Resident Engineer with project closeout

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Desired 10 years of related experience
  • Bachelor's Degree desired. Associate's Degree acceptable with relevant experience.
  • NICET III or equivalent experience, or EIT designation
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to supervise or coordinate the work of others
  • Knowledge of NYSDOT's Equitable Business Opportunities (EBO) software
  • Knowledge of computerized methods of construction project administration (Site Manager or Appia)
