We offer a unique perspective into the world of food manufacturing with a maximum 12-week paid internship in our Technical Packaging Group in Northbrook, IL. As a key player on the Packaging Team, the Technical Packaging Intern will have the opportunity to manage the technical packaging development of new products and processes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Identify, define, and implement technical packaging solutions using a human-centered design approach, with a focus on promotional activities and customer/channel-driven projects.
  • Support the preliminary assessment and qualification of packaging materials, new suppliers, in line with internal requirements and existing procedures.
  • Evaluate prototypes cross-functionally, considering production lines and food safety. Then develop technical drawings, create technical specifications
  • Support Barilla's Channels (e-commerce, Club, and Food Service) segment identifying key and innovative packaging solutions.
  • Work closely with marketing insights team to analyze and understand research and trends to improve our packaging portfolio
  • Support the industrialization of new Packaging solutions ensuring production line efficiencies and product quality; organizing and leading transport trials
  • Work cross-functionally to identify and implement cost savings opportunities within packaging considering the supply chain distribution and the logistics saturation
  • Leverage established testing protocols to evaluate new packaging solutions.
  • Collaborate with diverse cross-functional teams from across the world.

Qualified candidates will possess the following:

  • Completed Junior year of college with a concentration in Packaging Engineering
  • Completion of core materials classes in Packaging curriculum (i.e. paper, glass, plastic, etc.)
  • Familiarity with AUTO CAD & TOPS or CAPE PACK
  • Understanding of sustainability efforts or needs
  • Effective project management and time management skills
  • Self-driven individual with ability to work independently
  • Solid presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and maintain attention to detail
  • Strong ability to work in teams and build good relationships high degree of personal integrity and work ethics
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); Advanced Excel skills with formulas and pivot tables a plus
