While reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for safely performing installations, repairs and maintenance on production equipment in the Gastonia, NC facility. You must have a proven record of success in a fast-paced environment. You must have the ability to work with various teams and be an effective problem solver. You will take pride in your personal hands-on and analytical abilities, organizational skills and attention to detail.

Day to day responsibilities include:

  • Installing, troubleshooting, testing, repairing and maintaining equipment and machinery used in the plant for the manufacturing of paper cones, paper tubes and corrugated pallets as well as AC and DC drivers, PLC's, motors, controls, instrumentation, transformers and lighting systems.
  • Building systems needed including air compressors, water heaters, HVAC, boilers and lighting.
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Research, purchase and maintain spare parts as needed including data collection, creating purchase requisitions and source material quotes.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and organized work area.
  • Performing all duties in support of Sonoco's quality and safety policies.

This position is in our Gastonia, NC plant/Conitex. Here is more information about this new addition to Sonoco -

  • We want you to have 5+ years' experience in an industrial environment, troubleshooting, repairing, and/or installing manufacturing equipment, including pneumatic and/or hydraulic equipment and rotating equipment. Vocational training or a journeyman's license is a plus.
  • Candidate must have exceptional skills in the areas of electricity, electric components, and PLC's.
  • Able to read electrical prints and perform job layouts for electrical devices and circuitry.
  • It would be a huge plus if you have welding experience.
  • Working independently and managing multiple tasks simultaneously is needed.
