Position summary

Nava is at the forefront of reimagining how our government serves its people, and we're looking for an experienced manager to help drive this mission forward. As an Infrastructure Engineering Manager at Nava you will be our client facing AWS architect and manage 6-8 engineers working on cross-functional project teams. You will coach and help individual contributors grow. Your team will build scalable digital services for our government - designing, implementing, and delivering software that is depended on by millions of Americans. You care deeply about working on technology that affects people's lives and are passionate about building large-scale systems that are well-designed, fast, scalable, and secure. Responsibilities
  • Lead 6-8 engineers on cross-functional project teams
  • Provide coaching and feedback through regular 1:1s and biannual performance reviews
  • Hire and onboard new engineers
  • Work with government stakeholders to get buy-in on technical initiatives Work closely with other cross-functional leads to identify and mitigate technical risks
  • Guide engineering team on planning, estimation, prioritization, trade-offs, balancing technical debt, and meeting project milestones
  • Improve overall engineering quality through documentation, technical guidance and mentoring, and establishing and upholding best practices for the team
  • Review code and give feedback on technical specs
  • Review architecture and designs from other project teams
  • Collaborate with the product team, government stakeholders, and other contractors to build new systems and make improvements to existing systems
  • Participate in planning and breaking down requirements into tasks
  • Implement new tools and practices that make the team more effective
Required skills
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience with cloud infrastructure engineering
  • Previous experience maintaining a medium or large-scale production system using Infrastructure as Code
  • Broad experience with Cloud products in AWS
  • Ability to automate procedural tasks using scripting in Shell, Bash, or coding in Python, Javascript, or Ruby
  • Experience with Terraform and/or CloudFormation, Ansible, or other IaC and automation tools
  • Experience being the primary point of contact with external stakeholders.
  • Strong conflict management
  • Enjoy mentoring and growing engineers
  • Ability to lead multiple infrastructure teams working in a semi-agile environment
  • Experience implementing team processes and building a collaborative team culture
  • Experience designing and implementing application architecture and systems that are highly scalable, available, and performant
  • Comfortable making trade-offs to hit aggressive goals while planning for the future system and team health
  • An adaptive, empathetic, collaborative, growth mindset
  • Excellent written and real-time communication skills, technical and otherwise
  • Ability to pick up and learn new development and operations skills

The individual working in this position:
* Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and meet any other requirements for government contracts for which they are hired.
