Position Overview

Primary Purpose of Position

This position seeks a chemical engineering assistant professor with preferred expertise in chemical and biomolecular modeling, fuel synthesis from biomass, and/or processes for the production of composites and bio- materials.

The primary responsibilities for this position include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses, conducting cutting edge funded research, student advising, mentoring and recruitment; conducting scholarly, engagement, and accreditation-relevant activities, and all other activities required for a robust and successful academic career.

Instructional
*Prepare and deliver engaging and relevant lectures to students.
*Initiate, facilitate, and moderate engaged classroom discussions.
*Evaluate and grade students' learning via work, assignments, exams, and papers in a timely manner.
*Prepare and regularly update course materials
*Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
*Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction.
*Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise, assist, and mentor students.

Research
*Lead and conduct cutting edge research in a particular field of knowledge
*Publish findings in professional journals, books, or electronic media.
*Keep abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, and actively engaging with colleagues, professional organizations, and conferences.
*Seek and attract extramural funding to support a successful independent research program
*Mentor and financially support graduate students in research to ensure their professional competitiveness.

Administrative
*Collaborate with members of the corporate community to ensure program relevance; to develop new programs, and to provide student access to experiential learning opportunities.
*Supervise undergraduate & graduate teaching, experiential learning, and research work.
*Develop and maintain coursework and research websites.
*Serve on academic, assessment and administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, accreditation, and academic issues.
*Participate in student mentoring, recruitment, registration, and placement activities.
*Participate in campus, community, and professional events

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

North Carolina A&T State University is a public land grant university that enrolls over 12,700 students. The College of Engineering, with over 2100 students, has 5 Doctoral programs, 8 Masters of Science Degree programs, and EAC ABET accredited undergraduate programs in Architectural, Bio-, Biological, Civil, Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering, as well as a CAC ABET-accredited program Computer Science. The Department of Chemical, Biological, and Bio- Engineering offers ABET-accredited Bachelors of Science programs in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, and Biological Engineering, and offers Masters of Science programs in Bioengineering and Chemical Engineering. The Department has 10 full-time faculty members in engineering, 4 staff members and 3 adjunct faculty members. Major research includes the NSF Engineering Research Center for Revolutionizing Metallic Biomaterials, the NSF, the CREST Bioenergy Center and the NSF RED project " A Revolution in Engineering Education Motivated by Needs and Designs".

Minimum Requirements

PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering area is required by the anticipated date of appointment. A sincere commitment to excellence in teaching, and an ability to conduct high quality, externally funded research in an area of chemical, biochemical or biomedical engineering must be demonstrated. Willingness and ability to teach core chemical engineering courses in thermodynamics, transport processes, process control and reaction engineering are required.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
