Director, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Program

Reporting: The Director, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Program oversees all aspects of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Program and the Integrated Psychiatry/Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Resident Research Track. This role reports to the Vice Chair of Education and the Chair of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry as well as GME and ACGME.

FTE: 0.5 FTE minimum

Location: DCAP, 1 Park Ave, New York, 10016

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Faculty Evaluation and Oversight
  • Approve a local director at each participating site who is accountable for resident/fellow education.
  • Approve the selection of program faculty as appropriate.
  • Evaluate program faculty and initiate appropriate faculty development programs.
  • Approve the continued participation of program faculty based on evaluation.
  • Monitor resident/fellow supervision at all participating sites.
  • Supervise the Residency Program Associate Training Director
• Fellow Recruitment, Evaluation and Oversight
  • Oversee the selection and evaluation of residents/fellows in accordance with the general and program specific requirements.
  • Monitor resident/fellow duty hours, according to sponsoring institutional policies, with a frequency sufficient to ensure compliance with ACGME and New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) requirements, including:
    • verifying resident work demands and/or fatigue, in addition to at-home call (if applicable);
    • adjusting resident schedules as necessary to mitigate excessive service demands and/or fatigue; and
    • monitoring the need for, and ensuring the provision of, back up support systems when patient care responsibilities are unusually difficult or prolonged.
• Prepare and submit all information required and requested by the American Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), including but not limited to the program application forms and annual program updates to the Accreditation Data System (ADS), and ensure that the information submitted is accurate and complete.
• Implement policies and procedures consistent with the institutional and program requirements for resident/fellow duty hours and the working environment, including moonlighting, and distribute these policies and procedures to the residents and faculty.
• Ensure compliance with grievance and due process procedures as set forth in the Institutional Requirements and implemented by the sponsoring institution. 
• Provide verification of residency/fellowship education for all house staff, including those who leave the program prior to completion.
• Obtain review and approval of the sponsoring institution’s Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC)/Designated Institutional Official (DIO) before submitting information or requests to the ACGME, including:
  • All applications for ACGME accreditation of new programs;
  • Changes in resident/fellow complement;
  • Major changes in program structure or length of training;
  • Progress reports requested by the Review Committee;
  • Requests for increases or any change to resident duty;
  • Voluntary withdrawals of ACGME-accredited programs;
  • Requests for appeal of an adverse action; and
  • Appeal presentations to a Board of Appeal or the ACGME.
• Obtain DIO review and co-signature on all program application forms, as well as any correspondence or document submitted to the ACGME that addresses:
  • Program citations; and
  • Requests for changes in the program that would have significant impact, including financial, on the program or institution.
• Collaborate with the Adult Psychiatry Department and the DCAP research mission in the running of the Integrated Psychiatry/Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Resident Research Track.
• Collaborate with the Director of Education Administration in the creation and monitoring of the Residency Program budget.
• Respond promptly to requests for information and updates from the ACGME Review and Recognition Committee (RRC) as well as the NYULH Graduate Medical Education (GME) Office and implements any appropriate Program Improvement Plans accordingly.
• Respond appropriately to ACGME Residency Survey results.
• Comply with institutional requirements regarding timeliness and content of the Annual Program Review.
• Comply with institutional requirements regarding completion and timely submission of the Annual Program Evaluation (APE) or other required documents.
• Actively work to resolve any compliance areas of focus identified through the Annual Program Evaluation Process (APEs).
• Prepare accurate and complete paperwork prior to accreditation site visits.
• Maintain ongoing program improvement plans based on accreditation site visits, internal review recommendations and the APE.
• Communicate to both house staff and faculty, and demonstrate support of all hospital clinical learning environment (CLER) initiatives.
• Attend all fellowship relevant DCAP, GME and ACGME meetings, including but not limited to: Education Team meeting, Clinical-Education Meeting, PD-PC meeting, Chief and Fellowship Team meeting, monthly Education Policy meeting, CCC and PEC.
• Perform other duties as required and assigned.

Salary Range*:

• Minimum Salary: $125,000
• Maximum Salary: $150,000

*Salary is based on a part-time status with board certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, at .50 FTE.

• The salary range listed is for part-time employment and does not include incentive compensation or benefits. Actual salary may not fall within the listed salary range; consideration will be made for experience, training, hospital/community need, and other factors.

Minimum Qualifications:

• MD or DO
• Board certification in child and adolescent psychiatry
• A clear track record of leadership and administrative experienceA demonstrated history of expertise in education and training, including previous experience supervising trainees
• At least 5 years post-training, preferred
