As the Field Application Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting the Sales Organization and Sartorius Customers by offering product expertise, downstream applications knowledge, and technical support. The main mission is successful application, implementation, qualification, and use of Sartorius' Downstream products by supporting Sales and our end-users for product positioning, presentations, demonstrations, and evaluations whilst supporting customers with application development work, initial startup, training, troubleshooting, and ongoing support that enables their success.

The Field Application specialist position is based out of the home office which is to be located near Seattle, WA to assist in supporting business local to the Pacific Northwest as well as in/around Vancouver, Canada).

Main Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Support the Sales organization with customer discussions on existing products through product presentations, demonstrations, trials, application studies/demos as well as troubleshooting and cGMP manufacturing support for the Separations Technologies portfolio which consists mainly of filtration membranes and scale up (depth filtration, TFF, pre- and sterilizing-grade filtration, virus removal filtration), associated integrity testing and manufacturing equipment
  • Support new products through close collaboration with beta site testing, product demonstrations/discussions and information gathering
  • Support Sales in the customer process, URS analysis & technical response, and lead customer evaluations to help position products in line with the application requirements.
  • Strategize with assigned Account Managers to generate value-adding activities according to customer and business need.
  • Assist the Company by occasionally supporting the training of other Field Application Specialists and the Sales organization on assigned technologies and/or processes.
  • Provide technical qualification of sales opportunities to ensure appropriate positioning of technology within the customer application
  • Ensure training of customers on new technologies and support initial start-up operations as well as ensure/assist in internal training opportunities for self and colleagues
  • Support regional marketing initiatives
  • Support Quality Department in the quality complaint process by troubleshooting and analyzing customers processes for better investigation and resolution
  • Support the development of strong relationships with accounts within the assigned sales territory
  • Report on competitor product implementation & presence within the territory by feedback to the Application Services and Product Management Team
  • Monthly report on territory activity for management
  • Occasional overnight travel will be required to support customers / sales, to attend organizational meetings and trainings will be required (~35%). This travel requirement is subject to change based on customer and internal business need such as customer support and internal meetings and trainings.

Skills:

  • Effectively interface with product/project/division management
  • Interaction at various levels (sales, technical, end-users, leaders) within our internal structure as well as our customers
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Computer proficient in Windows-based software package including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Self-motivated and a self-starter; strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize projects and multitask at high level of efficiency

Qualifications:

  • BSc or MSc Degree, Graduate in biochemical engineering, chemical engineering, or biotechnology
  • 3 - 5 years biopharmaceutical industry experience within downstream PD; MSAT, cGMP Manufacturing and/or Tech Transfer team experience a plus.
  • Proven knowledge of biopharmaceutical industry including biologics process development with scale up for monoclonal antibodies and other modalities highly encouraged
  • Up to 35% travel
  • Ability to lift up to 30lbs safely due to the requirement to handle equipment
