Job Description

You will be responsible for providing teaching, supervisory, administrative and professional medical services to patients. You shall report to the Chair of the Department of Medicine in connection with these services and you shall provide the services described below during such hours as assigned by NYU Brooklyn.


The services include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide patient care, resident supervision and resident/medical student teaching as scheduled by Hospitalist Director
  • Adhere to all responsibilities outlined in the Job Description for Hospitalist Teaching Faculty, set forth below.
  • Participate in the Residency Program Evaluation Committee.
  • Represent the Department of Medicine at hospital committee meetings, as determined by the Department Chair.
  • Perform afternoon Multidisciplinary Patient Flow Rounds, as determined by the Chair.
  • Hospitalist Teaching Faculty Job Description/Responsibilities

HRP Patients

a.Visit every patient every clinical day; direct care and participate in discharge planning; provide appropriate documentation.
b.Communicate directly with patients; provide status updates and answer questions.
c.Make sure that patients and their families are informed of the anticipated/actual discharge date.
d.Retain ultimate responsibility for efficient patient flow and length of stay of each patient.

All Patients

a.Direct Patient Care Rounds with the house staff team, the patient navigator, case managers/social workers and nursing leadership at the bedside; delegate tasks to team members to facilitate diagnostic/therapeutic interventions, to assure adherence to mandated metrics and to assist in discharge preparation/planning.
b.Work to reduce unnecessary LOS due to inefficiencies in the system by communicating with private attendings, navigators, other team members and departmental leadership to address any and all issues, problems and opportunities.
c.Take leadership role in the development and maintenance of continuous quality improvement and patient satisfaction programs.

Private Patients

a.Contact private physicians regarding their patients when appropriate.
b.Communicate with team members to take all measures necessary to assure smooth patient flow and reduce unnecessary LOS due to inefficiencies in the system.
c.Assure all core measures and quality indicators are met by intervening with private physicians whenever problems, issues and opportunities are identified.
