Job Description Summary

The Personal Care Innovation Manager position will be responsible for identifying and developing new raw materials and unique chemistry solutions to current and emerging needs led by market, regulatory and commercial drivers.
The role is responsible for expanding the current ingredient portfolio through interactions with the R&D team, marketing and external sources.
Remain knowledgeable of new competitive introductions/industry technologies.
Maintain the quality of the existing product line and generate changes in conjunction with Marketing and Regulatory teams.
The Personal Care Innovation Manager is responsible for presenting product development ideas and technologies to the business leaders. This position is also responsible for translating the strategic plan and overall vision into action plans.

Job Description

Closely work with a team of synthetic chemists to generate novel compositions at bench scale and assist in scale up of technology

* Provides guidance and technical direction on project briefs, formulations, and lab trials.

* Evaluates and provides guidance based on the performance of new prototypes against project goals and benchmarks

* Identify, coordinate, and work with external research, academic and new venture partners to discover and present new technology and innovation platforms to leadership team

* Translate voice of the customer and customer unmet needs to material performance requirements

* Work on multiple projects simultaneously to ensure timely deliverables are met

* Communicate the Research & Innovation product vision, new technologies, product ideas, and new ingredients to higher management and to cross-functional teams in order to bring a proactive thinking regarding product development.

* Perform an active role in new product brainstorming sessions with Marketing and R&D. Develop new concepts and present ideas to Marketing.

* Review patent landscape to identify market launches and cross industry inspiration

* Responsible for training technical service, applications and commercial teams on new product launches.

* Follow all related safety and environmental rules and regulations

Additional Job Description

  • BS or higher in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering and 10+ years of R&D Personal Care industrial experience
  • 5+ years of hands on experience in personal care, advanced materials or specialty chemicals industrial research new product development
  • Ability to work in a global team environment
  • Knowledge of the principals of green chemistry
  • Understanding of chemical/functional relationships
  • Awareness of regulatory guidelines and restrictions for new product development
  • Must possess strong creative skills, be a strong contributor to "idea generation" of new products and have a persuasive communication style.
  • Must possess clear and concise business writing skills. Be able to convey ideas in a concise and clear way.
  • Working knowledge of key computer programs is required.
  • Must be able to demonstrate strong communication skills with R&D personnel, as well as all levels of management of Marketing, Sales, and Education, Packaging, GBSC, Creative, P.R. and Copy teams.
  • Must demonstrate strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of management.
  • Strong organization and planning skills.
