Job Description

A Process Engineer position is available at one of the world's best fragrance and flavor companies. This New Jersey based position is one that offers a collaborative work environment, experience in a fast-paced industry, and managing the pilot plant operation and assigned process development work as a member of the Global Process Engineering group. You will support the process development of new encapsulated fragrances and process improvements for commercial products, as secondary responsibility is to technical support Fragrance Manufacturing and Encapsulation Manufacturing. The focus will be on increasing the quality, timeliness, and first-time right of product introductions.

About You:

You will primarily be responsible for the management of the operation and maintenance of the encapsulation pilot plant in support of the Ops Process Engineering group. This includes coordination of production of sample batches for customer and internal use. In addition, you will manage pilot plant trials in support of process improvements with the local and global stakeholders and help in the collection and interpretation of experimental data. It is expected that you will take a hands-on approach in their job, including operating process equipment and working closely with technician and Operations staff as required bringing assigned projects to completion. You must demonstrate an ability and willingness to learn and communicate with a variety of individuals at all technical levels. You must be team-oriented, organized, and have good multi-tasking skills.

  • Designing and planning laboratory and pilot experiments in support of new product development and manufacturing improvement according to New Product Introduction (NPI). Planning experiments, gathering accurate data, performs analysis, summarizes findings, and writes reports. Using scientific and engineering methodologies. Elaboration of technical batch reports including interpretation and conclusions. Communication of project result and share pilot plans and Main Plant trials results
  • Managing the operation and maintenance of the encapsulation pilot plant. Coordination of sample batches preparation for customers and internal use. Creating and maintaining SOP's as necessary.
  • Leading scale-up and trial batches in manufacturing. Preparing temporary batch instructions and process change documents for non-standard processing. Participating in HAZOP's and safety reviews.
  • Communicating clearly with R&D, Operations, and manufacturing personnel, as needed. May also work directly with suppliers and/or customers (both internal and external). (10%)
  • Participating on new Project investment in basic engineering specifications and supports start up procedure
Job Requirements

Required Skills & Experience:

  • BS in chemical engineering or Equivalent academic and work experience with 2+ years' experience in a chemical, food, pharmaceutical, or related manufacturing or research environment.
  • Experience in Basic Engineering activities for investment projects in chemical environment.
  • Ability to work well on teams and with minimal direction.
  • Good PC skills, including using spreadsheet software for data analysis.
  • The ability to occasionally lift heavy objects (50 lbs) in a pilot plant environment.

Preferred Experience & Skills:

  • BS in chemical engineering with 5+ years' experience in cosmetics, fabric care or personal care Industry with relevant experience with microencapsulation, emulsion, spray drying and/or polymerization processes.
  • Good chemical engineering aptitude and knowledge with statistical process control abilities .
  • Knowledge of GMP processing operations.
