POSITION SUMMARY

The Tactical Operations Instructor provides instructional services to meet the Coast Guard's unique needs in support of high-risk training and live-fire exercises. The instructor will provide expert skills and knowledge to deliver instruction to USCG students, focusing on ensuring students achieve the necessary skills mandated by the course curricula and course objectives. Instructors are required to evaluate students' performance by verifying the students understanding of the course material, competency of learned skills, and the student's ability to demonstrate applied knowledge.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The instructor will provide expert skills and knowledge to deliver instruction to USCG students, focusing on ensuring students achieve the necessary skills mandated by the course curricula and course objectives.
  • Instructors are required to evaluate students' performance by verifying the students understanding of the course material, competency of learned skills, and the student's ability to demonstrate applied knowledge.
  • Monitor high-risk training (HRT) safety.
  • Maintain awareness of appropriate Coast Guard and Navy references, subject matter doctrine, curricula for training courses, and instructor training guides.
  • Ensure Emergency Action Plans (EAP) are developed, that the EAP complies with local training regulations and procedures (e.g., Camp Lejeune range and underwater egress training program), are updated monthly, walked-through quarterly, and exercised at least annually, for all USCG High-Risk Training courses.
  • Coordinate with USCG and inspect High-Risk Training equipment and facilities following all mishaps, near misses, equipment modifications, and at a higher frequency than the annual requirement.
  • Observe High-Risk Training evolutions periodically and as directed and assess compliance with approved training procedures, safety precautions, and emergency procedures.
  • Document observation results and report to the Training Officer, with observations and recommendations.
  • Shall ensure all training mishaps are logged and reported appropriately.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have all the following experience:

- Four (4) years of Tactical Operations experience, to include close quarters combat training at a Tier I or Tier II level, or equivalent (CG MSRT/TACLET, SF, SEAL, MARSOC, FBI HRT, CBP-BORTAC, large metro-area SWAT, etc.).

- Four (4) years of experience as a close quarters combat instructor/trainer for a Tier I, Tier II level or equivalent (CG MSRT/TACLET, SF, SEAL, MARSOC, FBI HRT, CBP-BORTAC, large metro-area SWAT, etc.).

  • Within 90 days of hire, Tactical Operations Instructors must:

- Meet and maintain weapons certification requirements for the MK18, M870, and USCG PDW (personal defense weapon), and specified courses of fire.

- Complete assigned course Core Unique Instructor Training requirement (includes successfully explaining and delivering all assigned course lessons of instruction).

- Must successfully complete TRASYS Instructor PQS, and successfully pass periodic evaluations to meet TRACEN established currency requirements.

  • No Security Clearance required; e-QIP background check/fingerprints required.

- Must meet Lautenberg Amendment criteria to carry firearms.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Classroom conditions will be comparable to a typical office setting with work hours of 0700-1900 based on the training schedule, with a typical 8-hour workday. Field/Range conditions requires wearing PPE, working outside in weather during all four seasons, with prolonged periods of standing and moving while delivering training.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must pass a standard physical examination that includes, medical history, height, weight, blood pressure, and meet required fitness standards throughout employment under the contract. Must pass pre-employment drug testing and remain drug free for the duration of the contract. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. of equipment or stock inventory and stand for period of up to 8 hours per day.
