Position Summary

Serve as the first point of contact for all emergency and non-emergency calls across New York University's (NYU) global enterprise. Operate and monitor multi-channel radio, security, and warning systems for timely detection and response to local and global events and incidents. Identify and dispatch appropriate Campus Safety personnel and other support services (i.e. law enforcement, medical, fire, etc.) in accordance with established operating procedures. Maintain continuous awareness of Department of Campus Safety personnel in the field or on special assignment. Deliver exceptional service, information, support, and assistance to all University community members, including students, parents, visitors, faculty, and staff, while directing them to the relevant person or office as required. Comply with University policies and procedures to maintain the safety of all Campus Safety responders and the community.

Prospective candidates must pass a comprehensive skills entry test. This position requires availability for assigned shifts from 11 pm - 7 am, with expected days off on Monday and Tuesday (starting Sunday night/Monday night) or Wednesday and Thursday (starting Tuesday night/Wednesday night).

Qualifications

Required Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

Required Experience

1 + years previous customer service experience

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proficient in emergency communications systems, including Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), multiple two-way radio systems, alarm receivers, video monitoring systems, access control systems, emergency mass notification systems, and telecommunications systems.

Strong professional and courteous customer service skills and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to establish priorities in line with risk and urgency; manage multiple tasks or projects simultaneously; work in a fast-paced, potentially stressful environment and maintain composure under conditions that require immediate and accurate actions; exercise sound judgment in emergencies, and make split-second decisions in accordance with University policy and procedures. Strong ability to collaborate and coordinate effectively with key stakeholders across the University, including team members at all levels of the organization. This includes the capacity to develop and maintain cooperative, professional relationships with fellow employees, representatives from other departments, and supervisors.

Ability to remain on duty until relief is available and work weekends and different shifts on a rotating basis required. The Communications Center is a 24/7/265 operation and requires regular attendance and punctual employee presence.

Preferred Education

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in security or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Experience

3+ years customer service experience or in a public safety environment (i.e. police, fire, EMS, security, dispatch).

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Association of Public Safety Communication Officials (APCO) Public Safety Telecommunicator certification preferred. Ability to accurately type 40 words per minute or more preferred. Ability to operate telephones, radios and a multiple screen computer console linked to a computer-aided dispatch communications system preferred.
Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate range for this position is $16.060 - $26.060.
