ABOUT THE POSITION

Senior Transportation Design Engineer

Join our dedicated team as a Senior Transportation Design Engineer, where your skills and experience will contribute to sustainable, context-driven, and integrated project delivery. We partner with municipalities, VDOT, state agencies, and private entities to enhance the communities where we live, work, play, and learn. Your role will encompass highway design, drainage design, traffic management plan development, cost estimating, right-of-way planning, and layout design.

Responsibilities
    Project Delivery: Lead highway design projects from inception through construction administration.
  • Project Planning: Engage in pre-design project planning and manage technical tasks effectively.
  • Highway and Road Design: Design highways and roads in urban and rural settings, focusing on geometric layout, grading, drainage, utility coordination, and environmental permitting.
  • Documentation: Oversee the creation and management of technical design and specification documents.
Skills and Abilities
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects efficiently.
  • Communication: Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficient in Civil 3D, particularly corridor development.
  • Leadership: Capable of leading and mentoring junior staff.
  • Task Oversight: Skilled in technical task management and oversight.
  • Public Speaking: Confident in delivering public presentations.
Qualifications
  • Education: BS in Civil Engineering required; MS preferred.
  • Experience: 8+ years of professional transportation engineering experience.
  • Licensure: Current PE license in Virginia.
  • VDOT Experience: Must have experience with VDOT and VDOT-funded municipal roadway improvement projects.
  • Travel: Must possess a valid driver's license for travel to client meetings and project sites.
