Overview

Employed by PAGNY for NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health, Morrisania is located on 1225 Gerard Avenue and has been serving the South Bronx for over 45 years. We are a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) providing coordinated world-class primary and specialty care with dignity and respect for all New Yorkers, without exceptions.

Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF POSITION
Under supervision of the Medical Director or designee, performs professional optometric work in designated Gotham Health facilities.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Performs eye examinations for visual defects and does refractions by means of such instruments as the Ophthalmometer, Skiascope, Ophthalmoscope and Retinoscope, including routine diabetic eye exams and assessments of diabetic ocular complications; pediatric exams; glaucoma diagnosis and treatment; acute eye problems, including infectious and inflammatory conditions; and refraction for adults and children.
  • Prescribes lenses, prisms or visual exercises to improve vision without use of medicine, drugs or surgery.
  • Refers patients having ocular manifestations of disease to an Ophthalmologist, when needed.
  • Follows corporate & hospital regulations, policies, & procedures.
  • Addresses patients, visitors and co-workers in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Maintains a professional working relationship with other health care professionals.
  • Operates equipment and performs job related duties in a safe manner.
  • Recognizes safety hazards and initiates appropriate action to eliminate hazards and prevent recurrences.
  • Follows established infection control protocols.
  • Work to provide comprehensive, personalized care for all New Yorkers and commit to providing a person-centered care environment while exemplifying ICARE (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence) values.



Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of Optometry.
  • A license to practice Optometry in New York State.
