Description

This is a part-time position, 21 hours per week.

Position Summary: This position supports the Office of the General Counsel ("OGC") in key aspects of its operations, with a direct report to the EVP & General Counsel, Corporate Secretary, and daily reporting to the two AVPs & Assistant General Counsels. This position requires a willingness, and an ability, to multitask, to follow departmental protocols consistently and meticulously (many of which are time-sensitive), to work closely with other GNY departments, especially Liability Claims, to handle information with discretion and good judgment, to take ownership of one's work product, and to maintain for the EVP & General Counsel in-office filings, calendar of important dates, retrieval of documents, and the like.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
  • Manage an email inbox OGC requests to prepare coverage position letters (CPL); prepare initial drafts of CPLs; finalize coverage letters; and update a database tracking the status of draft CPLs.
  • Assist OGC in managing its files and obtaining documents and information from internal and external sources.
  • Draft letters responding to subpoenas and information requests (SIRs) seeking company records; review for relevance and redactions; transmit responses to SIRs; and update a database tracking the status of responses to SIRs, including receipt of payment.
  • Identify, redact, and transmit company records to outside attorneys.
  • Update a database of communications involving underwriters and the company's insureds.
  • Provide routine administrative and secretarial duties (e.g., finalize filings, submissions, letters, and other documents) as requested.
  • Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, including formulas required.
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat or similar software to manipulate .pdf files required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365, including MS Teams is required.
  • Experience working with file management software, such as ImageRight, is preferred.
  • Experience working for an insurance company or claims management company, or paralegal certificate, is highly preferred.

The salary range for this role is $24/hr. The listed annual salary range posted for this position is subject to change and may vary depending on performance, education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, demonstrated proficiency in the competencies required for the role and business needs. Base pay is just one component of GNY's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards include eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus based on performance.
