As the Export Control Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our organization's compliance with export control laws. This includes the development of training, education and assessment tools, and the implementation of policies and procedures to promote the Hackensack Meridian Health's ongoing compliance with export control laws. You will also collaborate with the Director of Research Compliance in developing HMH's research security program.

This position is open to both hybrid and remote work opportunities.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Export Control Specialist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Analyzes, interprets, and applies U.S. export controls laws and regulations in an academic medical center setting.
  • Reviews and analyzes documents related to research to identify intersections with export controls. Develops, implements, and documents the appropriate compliance response.
  • Conducts Restricted-Party Screening of research collaborators and other parties to determine potential inclusion on restricted entity/person lists issued by governmental departments and agencies.
  • Analyzes research subject matter, including equipment and materials, to determine potential inclusion on lists of export-controlled items. Upon identification, applies for licenses and commodity jurisdiction determinations from government entities.
  • Develops and provides export control training to HMH. Attends export control training sessions conducted by governmental departments and agencies.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in Legal Studies, Public Administration, Business, Health Sciences, Engineering, or other related field)
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience implementing and/or enforcing federal or state export control regulations.
  • Maintains active membership in relevant organizations
  • Must be organized and able to work independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Experience implementing a new compliance program

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

  • Certifications as Export Compliance Professional (ECoP) and/or Certified U.S. Export Compliance Officer (CUSECO)
