Position: Shipping/Receiving Lead

Location: Beecher, IL

Wage: $22.54/hour

Shift: Monday - Thursday 7:00am - 4:30pm with possible OT every Friday and could start as early as 6am M-Thursday as needed

While reporting to the Materials Manager as the Shipping/Receiving Lead, you will be responsible for handling incoming and outgoing shipments and packages in a warehouse and production environment.

What you'll be doing:

  • Prepare and schedule all outbound and inbound shipments using the Oracle computer system and set up freight requests within the Sonoco Transportation Management System (TMS).
  • Supply all material handlers' daily instructions based on open orders and production needs.
  • Update weekly shipping schedules for production and material handlers.
  • Coordinate the packaging and shipping of small parcel packages.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory process.
  • Ensure inventory stock control and conduct periodical cycle counts at two locations.
  • Advise immediate supervisor and purchasing department when daily used inventory items appear to be low.
  • Support Materials Manager in annual inventory counting.
  • Perform and follow all safety rules and inspections as per company and plant policies.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices in the work area.
  • Must have forklift and pallet jack experience to load and unload shipments/deliveries.
  • Support the needs of production by providing instructions and direction for all Material Handlers affectively distributing finished goods, raw materials, molds, jigs, fixtures, etc. to the appropriate workstations throughout the plant to avoid down time in production.
  • Prepare/stage parts and materials for upcoming jobs in production.
  • Notify the production supervisor immediately of potential or existing problems as they arise.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to drive the company truck to and from an offsite warehouse location. Will need to complete and pass a DOT physical within 60 days of start date.

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED); 6 months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to communicate and comprehend written and verbal procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and ability to work effectively with a broad range of individuals at multiple levels.
  • Exceptional understanding of inventory management practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Basic mathematical skills for process tracking and production counts and inventory counts as needed.
  • Forklift certification, internal driver testing and DOT Physical for the company vehicle are required.
