The Opportunity

We are seeking an entrepreneurial equity Research Analyst to cover a Small-Mid Cap (SMID) multi-sector investment universe. This analyst will be instrumental in the design and implementation of a new SMID value investment strategy within the larger Mutual Series portfolio of investments. The analyst will collaborate with the Portfolio Manager and other investment professionals in the team, leveraging the scale of Mutual Series to identify SMID investment ideas across sectors. The analyst will also conduct independent research and make investment recommendations.

Our investment process utilizes a disciplined approach emphasizing careful security selection and long holding periods. Analysts are encouraged to follow their intellectual curiosity, engage in independent thinking, work with the team to develop compelling investment ideas, and make contributions to portfolio decisions.

Work Location: This position is a hybrid role working in our Short Hills, NJ office at least three days a week.

What are the responsibilities?
  • Perform thorough fundamental analysis of a company's business and financial position, including cash flow analysis, balance sheet and income statement evaluations.

  • Conduct independent research by speaking with company management and industry contacts.

  • Collaborate with the Mutual Series research team to understand trends and identify investment prospects for further research.

  • Compile data from multiple sources and develop detailed financial models on covered companies, resulting in concrete investment recommendations.

  • Partner with the portfolio manager and investment risk management on portfolio construction and the evaluation of sector weightings in the portfolio

What qualifications, skills and experience would help someone to be successful?
  • A minimum of 5-8 years of fundamental equity research experience, across multiple sectors.

  • Bachelor's degree in a complimentary field of study.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to independently build and maintain detailed financial models.

  • Strong understanding of securities research and multidisciplinary investing.

  • Fundamentally sound and easily articulated investment process.

  • Creative problem-solving skills.

  • Entrepreneurial/start-up mentality - someone with natural curiosity and drive to act.

Compensation Range: Along with base compensation, other compensation is offered such as a discretionary bonus, 401k plan, health insurance, and other benefits. There are several factors taken into consideration in making compensation decisions including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. At Franklin Templeton, we apply a total reward philosophy where all aspects of compensation and benefits are taken into consideration in determining compensation. The salary, benefits and variable rewards will reflect the seniority of the position and a competitive market rate. We expect the annual salary for this position to range between $160,000 to $200,000, in addition to a competitive bonus.
