Work Locations:With the exception of some select roles that have in-office requirements, A+E Networks operates on a flexible model that allows for remote, hybrid or full time in office work (in certain locales).

Office locations include New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Stamford, CT.

Job Description

THE ROLE: Senior Manager, Participations

The Senior Manager, Participations serves as the internal business contact for all profit participation obligations for A+E Television Networks. This position will play a key role in the accounting, management, analysis, interpretation, reporting and discharge of royalty obligations to all third-party participants. The ideal candidate is a subject matter expert in profit participations and has in-depth knowledge of new and emerging markets. The candidate must also have extensive experience in deciphering complex legal language to extract participant obligations.

MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Lead the day-to-day operations to ensure timely and accurate delivery of royalty payments for both owned and licensed programs with associated royalty obligations.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on all matters related to participations, including compiling accurate estimates and forecasts under tight deadlines.
  • Foster strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including business partners, legal, FP&A, accounting, and technology teams.
  • Stay abreast of industry standards and practices, as well as topics impacting participations, such as new and emerging markets (e.g., FAST channels, Podcasts, OTT, AVOD/SVOD Platforms).
  • Ensure that all calculations for MAGR Participation contracts are accurate, working closely with Legal and Production Finance to interpret contract provisions as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the Technology department and actively participate in discussions to provide insight regarding the future state for participations processing. Devise and implement automated solutions to drive operating efficiencies and conduct User Acceptance Testing to guarantee the successful deployment of our new Participations System.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to the team to facilitate their development. Strong focus on growing their leadership and strategic thinking skills.
  • Lead and resolve all 3rd party participant audits and claims promptly to eliminate and or limit liabilities.
  • Advise the Accounts Receivable team on gross receipt allocation requirements in license deals to ensure compliance with standard practices in royalty reporting.
  • Collaborate closely with our Legal department to ensure that policies are adhered to, and to provide necessary data and insights for legal proceedings when required.
  • Provide support to our Sales team in understanding and optimizing revenue-sharing agreements, allowing them to maximize the value of our content.
  • Review and interpret sales and participant contracts to assess participation obligations.
  • Ensure compliance with and maintenance of A+E Networks' accounting policies and procedures related to profit participations.
  • Assist the Manager of Participations with verification and approval of participations contract setups and subsequent amendments prepared by the analysts for accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop training materials for the team and internal business partners.
  • Assist VP of Participations with special projects as needed.
  • Provide ad-hoc reports and analysis for internal stakeholders as needed.

YOUR STORY:

  • 10+ years of profit participations royalty accounting experience in the media and entertainment industry. Residuals experience a plus
  • Extensive experience with MAGR participation calculations
  • Strong knowledge base in new and emerging markets
  • Bachelors' degree, Accounting major a plus
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Expert knowledge in using Microsoft Excel (Pivot tables/VLOOKUP/Formulas, etc.)
  • Proficient in deciphering legal documents for financial terms

CompensationAnnual Pay Range: $94,189 - $125,959Annual Incentive Target: 15.00%
