CHA Consulting, Inc. is currently seeking a Senior Engineer V to join our Power & Manufacturing - Utilities Infrastructure/Electric Transmission Team at our office in Parsippany, NJ.

YOUR IMPACT

The Senior Engineer V will lead the technical execution of projects within his/her discipline. This position will also provide expert consultation in one or more areas for the design development, implementation and technical analysis of various systems to implement new products, or changes to an existing scheme, to suit individual client needs. Specifically, the Senior Engineer V will perform the following duties:

    Complete complex development of engineering designs, prepare specifications, compile technical reports and other activities that require the knowledge of standard engineering
  • principles and techniques;
  • Identify , develop, and gather technical resources necessary to complete assignments;
  • Recognize technical discrepancies in analytical results and make appropriate corrections following standard procedures established by the technical group;
  • Plan, schedule, conduct and coordinate detailed phases of a project independently with other engineering disciplines and project management staff;
  • Recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality of design;
  • Collaborate with other engineering departments and coordinates their work with other disciplines if necessary;
  • Provide technical development of proposals and external presentations (i.e., clients, public, regulatory agency, etc.)
  • Develop individual discipline work plans to coincide with the milestones of a project work plan and select proper procedures to self-check own work for completeness and accuracy in technical reports and calculations;
  • Monitor the progress and performance on projects to ensure efficient production, uncover potential problems, and minimize malfunction in executing a design and adhere to the project work plan; and
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior level engineering staff members, and provide technical review of work completed by junior level engineering staff as necessary.

Moreover, as part of CHA's Power-Electric Transmission group, the Senior Engineer V will recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures as well as selects proper procedures to self-check his/her own work for completeness and accuracy in technical reports and calculations. This position identifies, develops, and gathers technical resources necessary to complete assignments. The Senior Engineer V continuously monitors the progress and performance of the engineering design development against the project work plan. As a vital member of CHA's Power-Electric Transmission group, the Senior Engineer V plays a key role in ensuring the quality and efficiency of products and procedures.

The responsibilities include:

  • Recommendations for Improvement: Propose modifications to development and design processes to enhance the quality of products and procedures.
  • Self-Check Procedures: Select appropriate procedures to self-check work, ensuring completeness and accuracy in technical reports and calculations.
  • Resource Identification and Development: Identify, develop, and gather technical resources necessary for successful completion of assignments.
  • Progress Monitoring: Continuously monitor the progress and performance of engineering design development against the project work plan.
  • Safety and Constructability: Ensure that the design and engineering aspects meet high standards of safety, are constructable, and are economically viable. This role requires a keen eye for detail, a commitment to safety and quality, and the ability to contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes within the Power-Electric Transmission group.

This position in the Power-Electric Transmission group also has the following additional duties:

  • Plan, design, transmission substation protection and control system;
  • Retire and replace high voltage substation control and protection equipment
  • Design utility protection and control systems; and
  • Develop effective solutions for complex projects and deliver projects on time and within budget.

The Senior Engineer V may also work on the following projects:

  • Protection and Control (P &C) Application:
  • Contributes to the development of P&C application documents to define P&C design scope, philosophies, methodologies, criteria and detail for power medium and high-voltage projects;
  • Perform P&C system studies/calculations/coordination and generate relay settings to be integrated and configured into IEDs as an option;
  • Develop control building layout, P&C one line diagram, three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, control panel layout and wiring diagram, station service AC/DC distribution diagram, bill of material, cable schedule, etc;
  • Determine station service loading requirements and perform battery sizing calculations.
  • Design projects for 138kV to 345kV transmission line upgrade
  • Lead design team to facilitate the planning, execution, monitoring, control and closing of detailed design projects for 138kV and 345kV transmission line upgrade in utility substations;
  • Develop detailed project plan in accordance with project-specific scope, budget, schedule, risk, stakeholders, staff availability and expertise;
  • Supervise, guide, mentor, and motivate design team to effectively execute the project plan to deliver the scheduled milestone submittals per project scope and schedule;
  • Monitor project progress and collaborate with project manager and resources manager to initiate appropriate corrective actions as required; and
  • Oversee and coordinate QA/QC, inter-disciplinary and independent design review in accordance with applicable guidelines and checklists.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's Degree (or its foreign equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems Engineering or a related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Electrical Engineering from any state
  • A successful candidate must also have eight (8) years of experience in engineering (including engineering in training), which includes five (5) years of experience with the following: understanding Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures; and engineering, computational, and modeling software: AutoCAD and MicroStation
