Job Description

Summary:

The Child Mind Institute is an independent, national nonprofit dedicated to transforming the lives of children and families struggling with mental health and learning disorders. Our teams work every day to deliver the highest standards of care, advance the science of the developing brain and empower parents, professionals, and policymakers to support children when and where they need it most. Together with our supporters, we're helping children reach their full potential in school and in life. We share our resources freely and do not accept any funding from the pharmaceutical industry.

Child Mind Institute is currently accepting applications for a full-time, two-year post-doctoral research fellow interested in the study of human brain function and the characterization of brain development and maturation in clinical and non-clinical populations. The overarching goal of this advanced training position include 1) the delineation of autism and related conditions in terms of neuroscience, 2) the identification of objective imaging-, cognitive- phenotypic-based markers of psychopathology, which will eventually serve to prediction later outcome and/or guide clinicians in the selection of treatments.

Fellows will be expected to take a multidisciplinary approach to their work, drawing from a broad range of disciplines (e.g., clinical psychology, cognitive neuroscience, computer science, engineering, mathematics, neuropsychology). In order to facilitate this process, they will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, integrating findings obtained from a variety of imaging approaches including resting-state functional MRI, diffusion tensor imaging, cortical thickness, volumetrics, simultaneous EEG/fMRI. This will occur in the context of 1) ongoing NIMH-funded multimodal imaging cross sectional and/or longitudinal studies of school-age children and toddlers with Autism, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and other and Neurodevelopmental conditions; 2) pilot work on big data currently available in the scientific community. These contexts largely offer protected time for analyses, as well as opportunities for study design and data collection of typical awake, as well as natural sleep MRI, phenotypic behavioral and cognitive observational and quantitative data, as well as initial hands-on training on grant writing.

Reporting to the Research Director of the Autism Center, this is an exempt, full-time position located in our NYC headquarters office.

The Child Mind Institute is proud to be named a company! Our competitive compensation and benefits include medical insurance, 401(k), paid parental leave, dependent care, and flexible work schedules, paid parental leave, dependent care and discounted tickets and entertainment perks programs.
