Job Description

Summary:

Perform exploratory research in the preparation of new chemicals for fragrance evaluation and potential commercialization. Identify, research, and develop improved chemical processes for new and existing aroma chemicals focusing on new technologies and reducing IFF manufacturing costs. Must be able to work safety in a team setting where attention to detail and accurate recording of results is essential.

Scope:

Responsible for carrying out diverse organic laboratory reactions, involving a wide range of reagents. Will purify reactions via distillation, re-crystallization, or column chromatography. Will be involved in utilizing newer technologies to improve output and minimize timelines of research projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Setup and execute reactions on gram to kilogram scale - 70%
  • Analyze product and data and accurately document experiments - 10%
  • Keep laboratory clean and help maintain a safe environment - 10%
  • Participate in team meetings and other activities -10%

Requirements:

Essential:

  • BS in chemistry with experience in organic synthesis in a laboratory setting.

Preferred:

  • Graduate course work in synthetic organic reactions and mechanisms.
  • Two years of synthetic experience in pharmaceutical, fine or specialty chemical industry.
  • Working understanding of gas chromatography and fractional distillation.

This position is for a scientist to apply his/her intellectual skills of organic synthesis in the area of fragrance chemistry. The individual will become part of a successful team designed to deliver innovation to IFF.
