Position Summary

The Product Marketing Team at IPG Mediabrands is looking for a Level 1 Technical Writer to join our User Documentation team. This position can be remote, hybrid, or in-office and reports to the Manager of Technical Publications.This role is responsible for creating, maintaining, and editing end-user documentation for our primary product. This position requires a solid grasp of complex software and how it is used.

The technical writer should be comfortable incorporating technical and procedural feedback from project teams while maintaining the structural, formatting, and style requirements determined by the department manager.

The role will, at times, require that documentation be created and published in compressed time frames. The successful candidate will be able to maintain the same level of quality during these situations.

Writers should be able to accommodate different methods of information delivery while maintaining quality standards, as project teams often act independently of each other and use different procedures.

Responsibilities

The Technical Writer I's primary responsibilities include:

  • Taking overall responsibility for the creation and maintenance of several user guides.
  • Reviewing and editing user guides written by other writers for grammar, style, and factual accuracy.
  • Working closely with Product Managers and Subject Matter Experts for numerous product teams to ensure new features or enhancements are accurately and fully documented and ready for publication on the release date.
  • Requesting and pursuing input from product teams regarding product and feature business benefits and ensure that these are described in detail in the user guide to entice user adoption.
  • Coordinating with other members of the Product Marketing team to ensure timely release of User Guides and maintain a consistent message to clients and agencies.
  • Assisting product marketers by providing detailed insight as needed for marketing collateral.
  • Working with the product education team to assist in knowledge transfer needed to create videos to onboard and train end-users.
  • Shortening long procedures by identifying and grouping steps into sub-processes to enhance comprehension.
  • Taking initiative and self-prioritizing to ensure you understand all upcoming and active product enhancements and meet deadlines with only minimal supervision.

Required Skills & Experience
  • A bachelor's degree in technical writing, English, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years working in a software environment writing, creating, editing, and structuring documentation primarily for an end-user audience.
  • Knowledge of XML/DITA style documentation structure and formatting and related products.
  • Knowledge of the internet advertising environment, including how audiences are formed, the different methods of ad delivery, and an understanding of reporting analytics.
  • The ability to create clear, concise, and simple documentation so the end user can perform every process and all the different possibilities based on selections.
  • The ability to conform to a style and standards guide, and also to provide suggestions to enhance the guide.
  • A comfort level collaborating with employees of all types, including:
    • Project Managers - To be aware of upcoming work before any writing is required.
    • Subject Matter Experts - To request reviews and feedback.
    • Technical Persons (software engineers, DBAs, IT experts)- To fully understand detailed technical aspect as necessary and explain them in easy-to-understand terminology.

Desired Skills & Experience
  • A familiarity with advanced HTML, API, CSS, and Database Structure.
  • A working knowledge of the following:
    • The Paligo Content Management System
    • The Confluence Content Management System
    • The Asana Work Management application
    • The Appcues In-Application Announcement application
