Wediko NY is seeking a Group Leader for our evening and Saturday programming at PS 195 in the Bronx. The salary range is $15-18 an hour. The Group Leader will facilitate creative arts-based activities with groups of 10-20 teens and adults (at different times) during evening and Saturday programming hours in an engaging and meaningful manner. In this role, you will:

  • Build and maintain a safe, engaging, and fun classroom culture.
  • Teach and expose children and adult participants to different forms of visual and performing arts and enrichment programming.
  • Use Project-based learning strategies.
  • Provide evening and Saturday Arts programming for teens and adults.

How You'll Be Making a Difference

  • Lead arts-based activities for groups of 10-15 Elementary school students and adults using project-based learning strategies.
  • Provide all documentation for NYSED/DOH compliance purposes are prescribed by the Site Manager.
  • Provide lesson plans for all activities in a time and frequency prescribed by the Site Manager and/or Program Coordinator.
  • Engage in conflict resolution and positive behavior management practices as needed
  • Work closely with the site-based team for ongoing coaching and professional development.
  • Ensure the participant's safety and during program hours in a manner prescribed by the Site Manager.
  • Incorporate The Home core values into all aspects of programming.
  • Participate in ALL staff trainings and activities, including regular check-ins with supervisors.
  • Complete 15 hours of School-Aged Child Care (SACC) License Training.
  • Complete all School-Aged Child Care (SACC) paperwork prior to commencement of job.
  • The ability to create fun and engaging virtual delivery of your activities and engagement via Zoom/Teams/Google Classroom upon request.

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years old with at least one year of college or post-high school experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of coaching experience with children from ages 5 thru 13 and adults
  • Experience, interest, and desire to work with middle-school aged youth and adults
  • Knowledge or interest in outdoor skills, personal health and growth, interpersonal relationships, youth development, group dynamics, and programming
  • A sense of humor, high level of patience, and ability to engage appropriately with youth while maintaining professional boundaries
  • CPR/First Aid Certification preferred
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred
  • Program Dates: October 2023 through May 2024
  • Work schedule: Monday through Friday from 6:00pm to 8:30pm and/or Saturday from 9am to 4pm in accordance with the NYC DOE calendar. Wediko NY does not operate when schools are closed or on early dismissal days. Mandatory training sessions and meetings will be held each month outside of regular program times.
