NYC Ferry operated by Hornblower is seeking a Public Affairs Manager for our operation in Brooklyn, N.Y.

About You:

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences' RESPECT Service System.

About the Opportunity:

The Public Affairs Manager supports the Vice President of Global Public Affairs in the design and implementation of public affairs and community engagement strategies for operations at NYC Ferry, Puerto Rico Ferry, and other operations as assigned, including offshore wind services. This individual is passionate about urban transit, able to quickly become an in-house expert on local politics, and knowledgeable of New York City politics with experience strengthening existing relationships and collaborations as well as finding opportunities for new ones. They are independent, reliable, communicate well, will own relationships, and see projects through to the end.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Be an ambassador and embody the values of the Ferries & Transportation Division by representing the company in the communities we serve.
  • Educate communities and key individuals about Hornblower and the benefits of commuter ferry services to drive community engagement towards continued expansion/renewal of existing services.
  • Champion and manage the implementation of a community affairs strategy for NYC Ferry to create stronger partnerships with community organizations, stakeholders, and elected officials.
  • Oversee the preparation of new NYC Ferry route launches with meetings, outreach, flyering, public meetings, events, etc.
  • Ensure the Community Relations teams of NYC Ferry and Puerto Rico Ferry attend community events, build personal relationships with community members.
  • Assist in drafting written testimonies, press statements, and other materials as needed for NYC Ferry and Puerto Rico Ferry.
  • Manage the activities and reporting of the Community Engagement Coordinator and NYCHA Engagement Lead.
  • Assist with press opportunities and operational service alerts and responses.
  • Manage relationships with riders, partners, and vendors to identify opportunities for new partnerships.
  • Manage relationships with elected officials, community boards, and other relevant government bodies across operations by attending meetings, providing email and phone updates, and flagging any potential issues.
  • Proactively raise community and political issues back to and relevant Management teams.
  • Liaise with partners to solve issues, communicate needs, and create synergies.
  • Analyze and report on partner initiatives, forecast for strategic changes and report on key metrics, including providing feedback to management to identify key community issues to be addressed.
  • Work closely with Marketing and Marketing Technology to support their initiatives and create a cohesive outward-facing messaging.
  • Attend and organize company volunteer days with All Hands-on Deck to support the Respect Our Planet mission.
  • Write reports and presentations.
  • Develop and work within annual community engagement budget.
  • Demonstrate RESPECT Values and QUEST Hospitality Behaviors with internal and external guests.
  • Hold yourself and all employees accountable to the Environmental, Safety, Security and Quality Respect and SMS systems of the organization and work to support the HSSQE team to implement such systems, plans, and control of records and documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent required; undergraduate degree in a related field preferred.
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred.
  • At least three years of experience in public affairs, community engagement, and/or public relations preferred.
