Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced registered dietitian with supervisory experience to join our team of 36 Registered Dietitians in the Stony Brook Medicine Nutrition Division. The successful candidate will serve as the Clinical Nutrition Manager (CNM) of the inpatient team, and lead 17 dedicated inpatient clinical nutritionists/RDs to provide exceptional nutrition care to our patients. The CNM will maintain policies and procedures and the Nutrition Care Manual to assure compliance with hospital standards, and TJC and all other regulatory agencies standards. The CNM will play a vital role in developing and implementing innovative programs and robust quality assurance projects, as well as collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers in interprofessional committees and meetings.

Duties of a may include the following but are not limited to:

Leadership and Management:

  • Lead and oversee a team of registered dietitians, dietetic interns, and support staff to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of clinical nutrition services.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate clinical nutrition programs to meet the specific needs of our diverse patient population.
  • Hire, train, coach, and mentor staff, fostering a culture of professional development and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and maintain high standards of quality and safety for all nutritional care practices to ensure compliance with hospital standards, TJC and all other regulatory agencies' standards.
  • Manage the clinical nutrition department's budget and resources effectively.

Clinical Practice:

  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to assess patients' nutritional needs and develop individualized care plans.
  • Conduct nutrition assessments, provide counseling, and educate patients and their families on diet orders,
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest scientific evidence and best practices in clinical nutrition.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives as needed.

Teaching and Mentorship:

  • Precept and mentor dietetic interns, fostering their professional development and clinical skills.
  • Contribute to educational programs for medical residents, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Build strong relationships with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to promote interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Effectively communicate with patients, families, and staff to ensure understanding and adherence to nutritional care plans.
  • Participate in departmental and hospital-wide committees and initiatives.
  • Participate in research activities and quality improvement initiatives; disseminate findings through presentations and publications.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist
  • MS in Nutrition or related field
  • 5 years of experience in a clinical setting
  • Leadership, management or supervisory experience
  • Strong clinical and communication skills
  • Expertise in Excel, including entering formulas and running descriptive statistics
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse team of healthcare professionals
  • Experience mentoring and supervising dietetic interns or nutrition students

Preferred:

  • NYS Department of Education Certified Dietitian Nutritionist or willingness to get this certification within 6 months of hire
  • Earned doctorate in nutrition or related field
  • Progressive management experience
  • Nutrition specialty certification
  • Teaching university hospital experience

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as - $110,000 - $135,000 Base

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

In addition, all UUP positions have an additional $3,087
