Job Description

Position Summary

Stony Brook University Medical Center seeks qualified candidates for the position of Lead Programmer Analyst in the department of Laboratory Information Technology. The candidate will provide clinical application support services for the laboratory information systems and its interfaces, and will apply clinical laboratory experience to best utilize and configure the features and workflow in those systems. The candidate will work closely with laboratory leadership, laboratory users, Hospital IT and vendors to ensure that the applications and interfacing to downstream systems meet the needs of the department and the hospital while conforming to all applicable regulatory systems.

Duties of a Lead Programmer Analyst - Lab IT may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Support the laboratory information systems, its integrated applications, and associated interfaces with an understanding of integration between systems.
  • Maintenance and daily support of the systems and desktop integrations.
  • Application development for laboratory systems to meet departmental specifications. Must be able to communicate with the laboratory staff, prepare specifications, and implement an appropriate design that meets workflow needs.
  • Application testing of all changes, including interfaces to downstream systems.
  • Schedule changes to be moved to production and validate to ensure successful outcome.
  • System testing of application upgrades and new functionality.
  • Participates in hospital IT initiatives, such as EMR upgrades/initiatives and implementation of new functionality while ensuring that the laboratory systems and lab workflow needs are represented.
  • Tracks changes and maintains documentation.
  • Communicate with vendors for support of the systems.
  • Support lab users; identification and resolution of applications problems.
  • Provides system training and in-service education as needed.
  • Backup support for computer hardware and devices.
  • Reviews, updates, and prepares laboratory procedures to meet regulatory guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot applications, hardware, or network issues quickly by identifying sources of problems.
  • Provide on call support for Laboratory IT on a rotational basis.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biological Science or Information Technology with a minimum of 2 years' experience of healthcare or clinical information systems.
    • In lieu of Bachelor's degree, an A.A.S. degree with 4 years' experience of healthcare or clinical information systems support.
  • The candidate must be detail oriented, and have strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The candidate must be capable of independent work and possess project management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Preferred:

  • NYS Licensure as a Medical Technologist or Technician.
  • ASCP certification.
  • Clinical laboratory experience in a hospital setting.
  • Laboratory information system support, development and testing experience on Clinisys (Sunquest) systems.
  • Experience with online instrumentation and laboratory automation.
  • Prior experience with hospital information systems.
  • Experience with voice recognition and digital imaging systems.
  • Experience with EMR systems such as Cerner PowerChart.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as - $70390 - $80856.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

In addition, all UUP positions have an additional $3,087
