Job Description:

Raritan Valley Community College strives to prepare students for the challenges of the ever-changing global community. The Department of Communication and Languages at Raritan Valley Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Instructor/Assistant Professor of Visual Arts-Image & Printmaking Technology for the 2024-2025 academic year.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching an annual full-time load consisting of studio, history, and/or portfolio courses across printmaking and/or photography, while providing a vision and strategic plan for how these two areas can flourish through a cross-disciplinary approach to both teaching and curriculum development. A skillset that blends traditional knowledge with contemporary practices is desired - particularly those utilizing current digital and technological processes to reflect how image and print media is created and consumed in contemporary culture. This individual should be a dynamic educator and creative thinker and provide leadership in the image and print technology area while developing innovative and experimental courses that align with their expertise and the needs of the department. They should be well versed in material advancements and both historical and contemporary artistic discourse, particularly as it pertains to printmaking and/or photography. The ideal candidate will foster critical thinking and provide hands-on, creative ways for students to make work through a variety of tools and technology as they engage in interdisciplinary work in a safe and welcoming studio environment.

Essential Duties:

Innovate, plan and implement strategies for program development and growth through an interdisciplinary approach, using digital and technological components when possible.

Maintain studio spaces, equipment and supplies associated with area/discipline.

Regularly evaluate courses to ensure that student learning outcomes and assessment tools are appropriate and effective.

Participate in departmental strategic planning, program reviews, and course assessments.

Teach courses at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs.

Develop and use a syllabus for each course that adheres to college and departmental guidelines.

Evaluate students to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and inform them in a timely manner of their progress. Review, evaluate, and recommend student learning materials and resources.

Assist the chairperson in the management of adjuncts, studio technicians, budget and course scheduling associated with area/discipline.

Participate in College/departmental professional development activities and serve on college-wide committees as assigned.

Demonstrate continuous professional development within the discipline, both creatively and pedagogically, while making continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.

Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.

Work collaboratively in a diverse learning institution; demonstrate commitment to teaching and working with a multi-cultural and multi-generational student body.

Provide access to students through posted student hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods.

Adhere to College policies and procedures.


Requirements:

M.F.A in studio/visual art required with a concentration in printmaking and/or photography strongly preferred.

Minimum of two years' college-level teaching experience required.

Evidence of a current and active exhibition record.

Demonstrated creative and pedagogical professional development related to discipline.

Demonstrated proficiency in industry-standard technology, equipment and software associated with both analog and digital printmaking and/or photographic processes.

Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience teaching college-level printmaking and/or photography courses.

Expertise in the realm of photography (including but not limited to: digital processes, dark/wet room development, historical and alternative practices); and/or expertise in the printmaking discipline (including but not limited to: screen-printing, intaglio, relief, lithography, letterpress, and book arts.)

Expertise with the Adobe Creative Suite.

Prior Community College teaching experience and/or having taught diverse student populations.

Experience integrating technology into the delivery of course content.

Experience in curriculum development.

Experience managing a photography and/or printmaking studio and the equipment and supplies associated with these disciplines.

Familiarity with current maker-space equipment and technology such as: laser cutters/engravers, cnc machines, plotters, etc.

Commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.

Online and/or Hybrid teaching experience.
