As the solutions architect owner, the Sales Engineering Groups have the technology and design responsibility for all sales support engagements nationwide.

The Presales Engineer will engineer/design for specific customers on a project or contract basis based on predefined key issues.

The role is a highly varied role focusing on support of the Sales Team and resolution of customer issues in a timely manner. Travel to Barrett and customer sites will be required to resolve complex issues which cannot be resolved remotely and to deliver training programs.

You will be a team player and possess strong communication skills, be flexible and adaptable, as well as be able to use your initiative to present and communicate ideas confidently. It is important you have excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills as you will be expected to do your own research and investigation.

Responsible as technical focal point, activities include but not limited to:

  • Develop a high level of understanding of Motorola Solutions and Barrett Communications solutions to be able to support external and internal customers in sales and the resolution of technical issues.

  • Liaise between the engineering departments and customers.

  • Analyze customer needs and define specific system designs to meet requirements mitigating any product limitations.

  • Provides the technical documentation for proposals and systems level definition.

  • Develop specific solutions by finding technical alternatives using Barrett/Motorola products or integrating third party solutions when applicable, understanding the capabilities and interfaces involved.

  • Partner with sales, customer service engineers, and project managers to develop technical solutions that meet Motorola's strategic goals.

  • Learn the usage of specialized engineering tools for high quality design including RF prediction analysis.

  • Analyze competitive products and make recommendations for changes in our designs to develop competitive advantages.

  • Documents the technical solutions by creating block diagrams, systems descriptions, executive summaries, and related documents, all based on the best practices and standards defined by Barrett and Motorola solutions.

  • Prepare practical demos for specific technologies for customer including the design implementation and effective presentation.

  • Provide onsite and offsite training, both domestic and international, on our products.

In addition to the above engineering activities, as part of the pre-sales support team, there are additional tasks like the following:

  • Help on the preparation of proposals and bids within the expected timeframes.

  • Act as Trusted Advisor partner with Sales and End Customers.

  • Follow company bid and quote process procedures and compliance requirements.

  • Prepare point to point answers to bids, risk assessments and technical descriptions to customers.

  • Conduct product field testing and trials in line with departmental and business requirements.

  • Act as a point of contact responsible for the maintenance of the Support Ticket web portal and assignment of tickets to relevant departments and personnel.

  • Conduct operational product verification and communicate test summary reports which includes test recommendations, inclusions, exclusions, lessons report, known outstanding bugs and requirements.

Specific Knowledge/Skills

  • Engineering Degree Electronics/Electrical/Telecommunication, Preferably Military Career

  • The ability to hold and maintain Defense clearances at a minimum of BASELINE (Highly Desirable)

  • 5 years' experience in Pre-Sales Roles or Similar

  • Highly desirable Knowledge about Military Customers and needs.

  • Proficient in English both written and spoken.

  • Travel requirements: Up to 40%

Skills Required

  • Technical skills to design system configurations based on system planners and internal tools.

  • Technical skills to understand integration with third party providers and to learn about new solutions and applications.

  • Analytical (able to break problems into pieces and address each according to priority and possible impact).

  • Ability to learn technical details on the portfolio and competitive products as well as technical concepts and specialized tools.

  • Able to work under pressure and under a short notice environment and to handle multiple projects at the same time.
