Technical Writer
Overview:
Marotta Controls, Inc. is looking for a Technical Writer to assist our world-class team of engineers. The team is responsible for designing and developing high-end Marotta products for marine applications and supporting over 60 years of heritage Marotta products. The Technical Writer will be responsible for creating technical documents to support new programs, training initiatives, and legacy projects.
Essential or Primary / Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and edit specifications, test plans, test procedures, and test reports.
  • Assist, author, and independently re-draft and modify documents to improve the consistency, clarity, grammar, punctuation, and succinctness.
  • Facilitate training documentation and structure to support operational goals and objectives.
  • Bill of Material review and drawing support
  • Coordinate and support responses for large/complex technical documents to support program activity.
  • Work with project management tools such as SharePoint used for records organization and data sharing.
  • Maintain, update and revise technical literature and respond to feedback from users
  • Work with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the product and the documentation requirements
  • Ensure consistency, clarity, and quality in and across all types of documentation
Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM, or related field. Candidates with a bachelor's degree in English or communicates who have experience in a technical field will also be considered.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Understanding of technical information and ability to simplify and communicate with nontechnical people.
  • Ability to establish procedures that don't already exist
  • Experience in the aerospace/military industry preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, plan, organize work in one or more projects concurrently.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.). Advanced formatting skills in MS Office a plus (Tracked changes, styles creation, captions, list of images/tables, custom section layouts, etc).
  • Strong documentation and writing skills.
  • Ability to understand and apply government and customer technical documents and information
  • Ability to work closely with a team of engineers and technicians.
  • Experience with CREO, Windchill, or Epicor is preferred.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
Work Environment:
  • This job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment.
  • This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing and foot protection (as required).
  • Some travel between our Montville and Parsippany locations will be required.
  • Minimal travel expected for this position (<5%).
This position is at our Parsippany, NJ office location.
