The Clinical Research Nursing Instructor is responsible for the orientation, continuing education, staff development and continuous process improvement of clinical research nursing staff, team members, patients, and the network research community, as applicable, across the health network and in collaboration throughout the NCI Consortium designation with Georgetown University, when applicable.

This position will offer a hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Clinical Research Nursing Instructor at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Identifies training opportunities based on ongoing needs assessment and analysis.
  • Develops and designs educational offerings based on needs assessments and/or organizational/departmental requirements, the educational process, and principles of adult education.
  • Promotes and facilitates performance improvement initiatives consistent with the goals and missions of the health network.
  • Integrates educational opportunities and develops ongoing education relevant to the coordination of research-related regulations and guidelines.
  • Supports staff and provides education specific to the development, maintenance, and reporting of findings for clinical trials.
  • Supports and trains research staff in developing, applying and maintaining research computerized provider order entry sets.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of educational offerings, including, but not limited to, ensuring that knowledge and/or skills learned are being applied on the job and have an impact on staff performance in meeting departmental/ organizational goals; conducting surveys to gauge team members knowledge of various topics; collaborating with the compliance team to discuss audit findings.
  • Participates in annual review and revision of staff orientation.
  • Coordinates comprehensive, unit-specific programs for research team members, inclusive of core competencies for staff in assigned areas, as needed.
  • Monitors completion of educational requirements and validation of skills, as necessary, and records/files appropriately.
  • Communicates progress and performance to manager, as appropriate.
  • Assists in an annual review of mandatory education and core competencies based upon requirements of NJDOH, JCAHO, Hackensack Meridian Health, and any other applicable state, federal, or institutional agencies.
  • Documents all educational events, inclusive of objectives, evaluations, and attendance, and develops metrics to track them.
  • Assists staff in planning and developing grand rounds and professional journal clubs, as requested.
  • Participates in the coordination of education programs generated by the HMH Research Institute and/or assigned department.
  • Collaborates with team members to enhance educational support in assigned areas.
  • Collaborates with team members in other areas to address any research or clinically related educational needs and facilitate staff education.
  • Acts as a mentor for students, interns, or other individuals, as applicable.
  • Evaluates, with input from preceptors, the performance of new staff.
  • Trains and/or coordinates research team members on various clinical skills, including CPR, EKG administration, phlebotomy, and potential other areas.
  • Assists in drafting and disseminating research-related announcements, memos, website content, and newsletter articles.
  • 22. Assists in identifying and applying for educational grants, when applicable.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • BSN Graduate of a NLN/AACN accredited program in nursing.
  • 3 years of clinical research experience
  • Adheres to the American Nurses Association standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and customer service focus is required.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, presentation, documentation, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Ability to work independently, or in a team, and handle multiple deadline driven tasks in a dynamic environment is essential.
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms. and voicemail is required.
  • Review and comply with all relevant HMH and Business Unit policies and procedures, and local, state, and Federal laws and regulations.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Education on human subject research and GCP (CITI Training and Certification).
  • Knowledge of clinical trials and the regulation (local, state, and federal) of such.
  • Familiarity with basic scientific and healthcare principles and terminology.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage competing tasks and demands.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Current valid NJ State Professional Registered Nurse license.
  • BLS/CPR certification by American Heart Association is required within 60 days of hire.

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

  • Certified Clinical Research Professional or Certified Clinical Research Coordinator.
