POSITION SUMMARY:

Design, procure and service special tools, machines and fixtures required to support the capital, new part and cost reduction programs of the plant.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide accurate information on methods, tooling and equipment required to manufacture products being quoted by the plant.
  • Design and specify tools and capital machinery; obtain approval for funds disbursement; control construction quality and timing; and assist in installation and start-up at the plant.
  • Assist in maintaining plant productivity, quality and profitability by resolving process deficiencies and/or by suggesting process improvement.
  • Assist Division Staff and customers by insurance compatibility of manufacturing process with product design.
  • Troubleshoot the operation of tools, fixtures and machines as requested to correct or improve their operation
  • Implement cost reduction proposals and follow-up to insure success in achieving project goals
  • Ensure compliance with EM-SEC.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/CRITICAL SKILLS:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering (or similar technical field of study) or equivalent industrial experience in mechanical, industrial, or robotics automation.

  • Experience in automotive manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly processes preferred.

  • Experience with CAD design, computer programs, robotics, PLC controls is a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Office environment - includes, but not limited to, artificial lighting, computers, telephones, desks, temperature controlled.
  • Manufacturing environment - includes, but not limited to, artificial lighting, machine/equipment noise, some welding exhaust, metal working fluid mist, non-controlled temperatures, and PPE required.
  • Some travel which could include overnight stays.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to sit for short and long periods of time to complete required reports.
  • Ability to move about the plant in both the office and manufacturing areas.
  • Ability to travel occasionally.
  • Manual dexterity for computer work.
