Pay Range

$132,810.00 - $170,556.00 Annually for the SES.2 level
$159,330.00 - $204,636.00 Annually for the SES.3 level

Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.


Job Description

We have an opening for a Modeling Suites Software Developer. This position is in the Applications, Simulations and Quality (ASQ) Division within the Computing Directorate.You will support the users and maintainers of the Modeling Suites. You will also develop suites-relevant software products and infrastructure, such as analysis pipelines and unit/regression testing. You will help build common input and output software tools to facilitate Verification and Validation and increase problem portability across codes.

This position will be filled at either theSES.2 or SES.3 level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

In this role you will

  • Provide moderately complex computer science and software development support using industry standard software development practices, modern programming languages, and operating systems.
  • Develop a range of applications including scientific, graphical user interface, database, and visualization applications.
  • Participate in the requirements definition, analysis, design, implementation, debugging, testing, and optimization of computer software.
  • Participate in an interdisciplinary team in support of Modeling Suites
  • Contribute to the fulfillment of technical projects and organizational objectives, functioning as an effective team member on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Engage other developers frequently to share relevant knowledge, opinions, and recommendations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities at the SES.3 Level

  • Manage multiple advanced parallel tasks and priorities of customers and stakeholders, ensuring deadlines are met, while leveraging team member's skills.
  • Implement, deploy, and maintain software systems using object-oriented analysis, design, and programming techniques.
  • Provide solutions to complex problems that require in-depth analysis of tangible and intangible factors.

Qualifications
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Hands on experience working with the multi-physics code teams and users.
  • Proven proficiency in developing software with Python.
  • Ability to effectively manage concurrent technical tasks with competing priorities and meet deadlines that are important to project success.
  • Broad experience approaching difficult problems with enthusiasm and creativity.
  • Proficient interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of personnel with the ability to work independently in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to necessary to effectively collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, prepare, present, and document technical information.

Additional Qualifications at the SES.3 Level

  • Ability to work effectively with minimal guidance.
  • Advanced experience providing innovative approaches and applying new technologies to broadly defined tasks and projects.
  • Advanced experience applying effective analytical and problem-solving skills to moderately complex problems.

Additional Information

Qualifications We Desire

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Experience with application development, and experience with configuration management tools (e.g. Git) and test repositories, JIRA or another commercial defect tracking system.
  • Experience interacting with physics simulation code input and outputand/or simulations at scale on HPC.
