Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Doctorate degree (or foreign equivalent) in Nursing or related field (examples: PhD, DNP, EDD). Five (5) years of full-time experience with teaching and/or curriculum development.

Preferred Qualifications:
Five (5) or more years of Upper Division teaching experience. Experience with Academic, Clinical and Programmatic Research. Experience with Grant Development/Submissions and Funding. Senior Academic Leadership Experience.

Brief Description of Duties:
The School of Nursing at Stony Brook University invites/seeks applications for a full-time, calendar year position to assume the role of the Associate Dean, Academic Affairs. The Associate Dean, Academic Affairs provides creative and effective leadership and vision with regards to all academic issues pertaining to the School of Nursing and is a key contributor to the overall functioning of the school. The desired applicant has a distinguished Record of Interprofessional Collaboration and Scholarship.

Duties:

  • Academic and Curriculum Management:
    • The expectation of the Associate Dean, Academic Affairs (ADA) is to provide vision, direction, and support to faculty as they design and implement academic programs and curriculum that meets the needs of a global society and changing health care system.
    • The ADA is directly accountable in maintaining the integrity and quality of all academic programming and works to ensure quality benchmarks are being met.
    • The ADA oversees all program accreditations and compliance with standards and regulations (NYS, DOE, CCNE).
  • Faculty Development:
    • The ADA will manage and coordinate with Departmental Chairs to ensure the growth and development of faculty, including adjunct faculty, to ensure the SON is meeting the mission, vision, and values of the School of Nursing and of the University.
  • Collaboration:
    • The Stony Brook School of Nursing promotes academic and scholarly excellence through a collaborative administrative team.
    • The ADA will provide strategic direction with regards to academic partnerships and will work with the Associate Dean, Clinical Integration and Strategic Partnerships to facilitate these critical initiatives.
    • The ADA will work with the Assistant Dean, Administration and Finance to ensure decisions are made to protect the financial stability of the school and to strategize to ensure the recruitment and retention of faculty and staff to teach and support students in the School of Nursing.
    • Collaboration with the Associate Dean for Research and Innovation will promote faculty scholarly development.
    • The ADA works with the Office of Student affairs on matters related to student recruitment, admissions, retention, and clinical experiences.
    • Interdisciplinary opportunities exist between the Health Sciences Schools and the University, and it is the expectation of the ADA to both participate and help mentor faculty in engaging in these partnerships.
  • Teaching, Scholarship, and the Administrator Role:
    • In this role, one is expected to contribute to the educational, research, clinical, and community service mission of the School of Nursing.
    • The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs will report directly to the Dean. This is an essential position, and an on-campus presence is expected, along with weekly schedule flexibility to accommodate responsibilities outside normal business hours to both meet the demands of the role and to support the Dean.
  • Other duties or projects assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Special Notes:
This is a Management Confidential position. This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.

Essential Position:
This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions that are designated as such may be required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are canceled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.


Evening and weekend work may be required at times.
