Job Description

The Project Manager- is instrumental in management and oversight of the design and construction of projects. Coordinates between the Facility Operations and Design & Construction Departments as well as outside contractors, engineers, and other specialty consultants for design review and construction of projects as necessary. Works as assigned by the Director, Design & Construction. S(he) performs a variety of design and construction management tasks requiring application of specific industry related techniques and knowledge.

Essential Job Functions:

Project Manager

When managing projects:

Manages all pre-construction related activities of Medical Center projects developed by outside consultants, and on internally developed projects.

Oversees services of outside planning and design consultants who produce design and working drawings for projects, specifically to insure their compliance with Medical Center standards, the Project Program Statement, and user requirements.

Provides technical review of design by consultants during all phases of design to ensure conformance with Medical Center, City, State and all other regulatory agency requirements.

Solicits, evaluates and summarizes proposals, and recommends appropriate contractors, consultants, vendors and manufacturers for specific task or project services.

Participates in the planning and programming process on projects.

Develops budgets and detailed estimates internally, or by utilizing outside consultants for projects.

Develops schedules of all phases of design, construction, and certification steps and phases internally, or by utilizing outside consultants for projects.

Administers the construction phase of projects by initiating and expediting all contracts and purchase orders, overseeing all related activities of the architect, engineers, consultants, contractors, vendors, and users, and monitoring the budget and schedule to ensure meeting the Project goals.

Maintain and report in a timely manner to the Senior Director on all project activities, schedules, budgets and other items and activities.

Administers the process for obtaining all internal, state, and local Project Reporting Reviews, permits and inspections required by and relating to OSHA, ADA, JCAHO, EOC, ILSM, IDPH and City of Chicago agencies and regulatory requirements. Maintains all documentation regarding these requirements, and assures that all requirements are addressed and met in a timely manner.

Coordinates all internal and external operations functions, ie: Facility Operations, tele-data (IS), EVS, Security, Infection Prevention & Control, and other appropriate support services as required for each project, and with other Facility Services Department personnel.

Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering or through a minimum of 5 years' experience in construction, project management and plant operations. Also preferred is the knowledge of design and construction procedures in a healthcare setting.

Qualifications also include demonstrated proficiency in building design, construction, cost estimating, and project scheduling; project management; computer skills including Excel spreadsheets Word; Must have good written and oral communication skills.

The primary departmental contacts of this position includes the Senior Director of Design & Construction and Senior Director of Facility Operations.

Working Conditions:

Minimal likelihood of occupational exposure to pathogens during the performance of assigned duties.
