Wieland currently has an immediate need for a Rolling Operator to set-up and operate Z-mills and continually monitor material and machine parameters to assure compliance with specifications. This position will be located at our Wieland Thin Strip facility in Waterbury, CT.

The ideal candidate will be mechanically inclined - metals industry is a plus!

Starting Pay: $25.90/hr.

Schedule: 2nd Shift

Pay Schedule: Bi-Weekly

Rolling Operator Responsibilities:

Use electronic contact and non-contact gauges, indicators, and controls to operate machine and check product
• Check material for proper gauge, surface finish, or other properties
• Move material to and from machine using forklifts, transporters, cranes, pallet jacks
• Direct the work of one or more mill helpers to maximize machine uptime, quality, and productivity
• Operate rewind equipment, steel sleeves and mill blocks
• Perform light maintenance on machines, such as changing and cleaning work rolls, intermediate rolls, and bearings
• Comply with all safety rules and regulations
• Follow PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and JSP (Job Safety Practice) documents
• Read, understand, and follow all Work Instructions Specific to the equipment
• Detect and report faulty operations, improper material and unusual conditions
• Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition
• Determine proper roll combinations to achieve desired shape and surface finish
• Perform other similar or related duties or flex to other areas of the plant as required

Rolling Operator Qualifications:

• Experience running Sendzimir Z-mill or other related rolling machinery
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Mechanically inclined, comfort level with using small hand tools
• Good attendance record
• Ability to read and write English
• Ability to maintain production records and logs
• Ability to perform simple math, addition and subtraction
• Familiarity with use of micrometers and calipers
• Excellent decision making skills and organizational ability
